Fine TALL Pair Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Lokapala Figures with Oxford TL Test  

This fine and impressive matching pair of pottery lokapala figures was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). They are "heavily-potted" and made from a reddish pottery that have been "cold painted" in various coloured pigments. On the surface in places there still remain traces of gold leaf. Note the exquisite detail of their clothing and hairstyle...

Shabti figures were placed with ancient Egyptian burials to act as servants in the afterlife, to undertake menial tasks and produce food for the deceased. The hieroglyphics on this shabti, from Memphis, are an extract from the Book of the Dead.

This ushabti figurine is depicted as a worker holding two hoes for work in the fields of Osiris in the afterlife. He is wearing a tripartite wig which falls down between the shoulders...

This mid 19th century famille-rose ink pan (box) is 2 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter. On the top of the cover depicts two roosters fighting in the flower garden. The side is decorated with a floral design. It is in excellent condition.

Magnificent set of Kamisugi Sake Brewery bronze doors from the Taisho Period, C.1920. One door has gold gilt wood letters reading 'Kamisugi' the other 'Shikishima', both sake brands. A massive and elaborate seal of the rare roller seal group, probably for decorating bread, Pre-Columbian Carchi culture, Ecuador. 500 BC-500 AD.

A very beautiful and impressive seal decorated with geomethric patterns in solid grey stoneware. The seal born with protruding handles, to make it easier to use.

Condition: Extremely fine.

Japanese Erotic Shunga Prints. 8 double-page book illustrations in colours from a shunga book (6 with erotic motifs). Extremely good details of the interiors and clothing. Also part of the lot are 3 pages with poetic inscriptions. Probably by Utagawa Kunisada (1786–1865). Japan, late Edo, c. 1850. H 18.5 cm, L 26.5 cm. Condition: Good colours, general fine state of preservation with minor worming (repaired) on a few of the leaves.

A fine larger stamp seal with an engraved handle in cream stone marble or alabast (?), made during Hittite expansion in the Hittite style, c. 2nd. millenium BC.

The seal plate is round and depicts a kneeling human or deity struggling with a large snake, another animal behind. The handle engraved with a deep relief motif of an animal.
