Guan Yin in cast bronze. She is holding a stylized flower in her hand which serves as an incense holder. Her long-sleeved dress is reminiscent of the Tang style. Details are incised on the dress, the hair. The old patina is very beautiful corresponding to an object several hundred years old. Must be from the Ming period or earlier. Buddha in very heavy cast bronze. Never been gilded. Very nice natural brown patina. Very well known model of the Kien-long period, which usually are gilded and marked with the reign and sometimes dated and which are always in embossed copper (see an example in my collection n°10). An antique Chinese Fu Dog artist rendered from one piece of natural Wisteria root wood. Designed with its mouth open, it is expelling evil spirits. Its angled posture combined with its knobby and swirling texture adds visual movement to this magnificent burl root .

In Tang dynasty many sansai figures were received in tomb rooms and likewise many painted unglazed pottery figure what had been making from ancient times were received too. This figure is very excellent and with good condition. Considering that this figure is greeting with Chinese style, this person is supposed as a Sogdian delegate. A large and powerful polychromed wooden carving of a Chinese demonic altar guardian figure, possibly Shun-Feng Erh, dating to the 17th century. Multiple coats of polychrome confirm the piece's great age. Intact, with, most probably, a reattached break in the figure's sash, visible in the photos. A full exposition of the role played by similar figures can be found in Arts of Asia, September-October 1998, "Demonic Images on Chinese Altars." The piece stands just over 16 inches in height...

A charming, diminutive Ming sculpture of a musician, measuring 4 inches in height. The face has been carefully modeled, as the photos will, hopefully, confirm. The glaze is in excellent condition. Please be sure to look at the last photo, as you will see that the head has been almost invisibly reattached.

This is a large, gilt terracotta head of an official, dating to the 15th-16th century. The face shows great character and was, evidently, meant to represent someone of importance, given the extensive gilding, much of which remains. The "beard" consists of (I believe) horsehair. Finely cast, with nice details, miniature statue of bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, standing on a lotus base, his left hand holding what seems to be a gourd. Bronze, with encrusted reddish green patina, with traces of the original gilding. China, Tang Dynasty. Height: 5.6 cm. The statue is nicely mounted on a custom wood stand. Good condition.

Small statue of Buddha, in monk's robes, standing on a lotus, his hands in abhaya and varada mudras. Hollowed at the back. Tenon below the lotus. Bronze, with reddish-green patina and traces of soil encrustations. China, Tang Dynasty. Height: 9.8 cm. Tiny casting defect on the lower left side of the robes, otherwise very good condition.

Seated on a lotus throne, guarded by two attendants. On the back of the stand there is an inscription : This is a statue (or carving) or Kwanyin, for Mr. Wang (??)'s wife, Mrs. Chao (??). 2nd day, 4th month Daoguang 10th year (1830 A.D.). Condition: usual age wear, loss of gilding, the ribbon from the crown at the right side is missing. H. 23 cm.

Chinese antique pair of large stone lions (ShiShi) in dramatic traditional poses. The male lion has it's paw on the embroidered ball - when placed outside a buiding, this represents protection of the material structure. The female lion has it's paw on a playful cub - when placed outside a building, this represents protection of the building's occupants.

A Chinese gilt wood statue of Skanda. Skanda, also known as Wei Tuo (Chinese: 韋馱), is a Mahayana bodhisattva regarded as a devoted guardian of Buddhist monasteries who guards the Buddhist teachings. He is also sometimes called in the Chinese tradition "Hufa Weituo Zuntian Pusa", meaning "Honored Dharma Protector Skanda Bodhisattva", because he is the leader of the twenty-four celestial guardian deities mentioned in the Golden Light Sutra (quote from Wikipedia). Very large Qianlong Buddha made of solid bronze, with rests of gilding and a temple lion, marked Qianlong on the back. Weight 4,4 kg. No cracks, no repairs.

This is an original elaborately handcarved softwood corble of a majestic Chinese Fu-Dog or lion dog guardian. Original joints on its top and side that would have kept it into place. There is so much detail in this piece, from the tendrils of the lions' tail draping above its head. Looking above like the rays of the sun. Delicately hollowed and carved xiù qiú ball underneath its front paws. The detail continues to smaller lionlike creature riding upon its back...

We are glad to present you one of our favorite statues of our collection - very large and precious Chinese Bronze Buddha from the 18th century with rests of gilt.

The Buddha is seated on a lotus base in abhaya mudra position which means protection, peace and the dispelling of fear.

This statue has a Qianglong Seven-Charakter Mark, DA QING QIANLONG NIAN JING ZAO, (1736-1795).
