An early decorative temple carving of a Taoist deity seated on a donkey, painted in white, black, red and gold, Late Ming-early Qing dynasty, c. 16th.-17th. century.

Hidden room in the back, closed lid.

Size: c 30 cm. tall.

Condition: Nice very fine for the type and age, intact with much of it's pigments still preserved. Minor losses and completions.

Provenance: Ulf Gudmundsen collection, c. 1950s-2007.

A lovely larger figure of the seated Guanyin on a Lion, finely gilt and laquered, China, Late Qing Dynasty, 19th. century.

The figure was carved in hardwood with a very serene expression and with respect to tiny details. She is seated on a temple Lion with an elaborate hair dress and lawish gilt, with a stylized rock in red as base.

Impressive large standing wood sculpture of He Xiangu何仙姑- the only women in the pantheon of the Eight Chinese Immortals. This is at least Qing dynasty possibly earlier originally she would be holding a lotus in her hands. Once source describes her as being “the Patron Saint of Housewives”. Height: 97cm/38in and has a lovely benevolent expression. Condition as pictured, there is a dedication niche on back but the contents have been removed.

These mid 19th century Chinese carved wood statues are around 12 inches high, 8 inches wide and 5 inches deep. They depict two young men sitting on a Qi Lin (or Qi Ren). Their arms are raised up and they are holding gold ingots. Both Qi Lin have a loose ball in their mouths. The workmanship is great, especially the detail of the Qi lin’s faces. Aside from slightly worn colors and portions of the statues are missing due to age, they are in good condition.

A rare very well carved soapstone sculpture of Lui Hai in traditional pose ensnaring the three -legged toad with a string of cash. This item was made circa 1750 - 1800 during the reigns of either the Qianlong or the Jaiqing Emperors. The tip of one finger is missing and there is an old glued repair - most visible on the upper foot. Little of the original paintwork is now visible. Height - 7.5 inches (19cm)...
