DESCRIPTION: A Qing dynasty bamboo pipe, possibly used for either opium or tobacco, with a bulbous body crafted from a large segment of giant bamboo. Mounted onto this segment are heavy brass fittings, one for the tubular tobacco bowl with its long brass shaft descending into the body. A truely spectacular tomb pottery model of a rich court house or mansion, China, Ming Dynasty, 1368-1644 AD.

This building complex was Termo-Luminescence tested by Ralf Kotallas Laboratory. It consists of 6 houses, 4 walls and a screen (11 parts) comes with three full TL reports of different buildings, all dating it to the Ming Dynasty.

A pair of Quan Yi Huanghuali horseshoe back armchairs from the 18th Century. The generously proportioned curving top rail is made in five parts using half-lap pressure peg joints terminating in a curved look beyond the goose-neck side and front corner post. The back splat is carved with a Chimera medallion. The back corner posts continues through the frame of the soft mat seat to form the back legs and front legs enclosing the cusped apron carved in relief with curling tendrils...

A Chinese rock crystal carving of a mythical beast called a Qilin. Resembling a fu dog, the creature is a chimera mixed with a lion, a deer, a dragon, and sometimes other animals. The Qilin is said to appear with the arrival and the passing of a sage or high ruler.

The Ming dynasty tradition of mortise and tenon joinery can be seen and experienced in this later Ming form day bed. The Zitan bed platform rests soundly on all four inverted horse hoof legs. Mortise corners frame the woven bamboo rattan seat cover. For added flexibility, roped lacing and carved wooden support structures help reinforce the durability of its function.

The back and side rails form a lattice-like structure called “wheel of life” pattern...

A rare early (female) Buddhist Guardian Lion painted with unevenly distributed crackular over glaze turquoise enamel. This item was probably made in China during the 17th or early 18th Century.

Condition: very good - there are many small under glaze firing cracks; there is glaze loss to both eyes and there is 'kiln grit' to the base. No chips or external cracks and no repairs or restoration...

Han Jade pendant with two connecting holes on each end. The front has the carving of two stylized Phoenix Birds and the back with carvings of cloud motifs.The phoenix was commonly referred to as the "King of Birds." Nuo mask of Kailu, "Open the path", god with a terrifying face (horns, fangs) who leads the funerary procession; his fierce face is intended to repulse the bad spirits (and the dangerous wild animals?).

Chinese rare Sancai glazed pottery figure of a standing horse. The saddle pad is glazed with four colors including a rare blue. The saddle itself is covered with a vermillion slip and naturalistically modeled with sweeping folds of fabric. Most exquisite is the graceful arching of the horses neck, the slight turn of the perfectly proportioned head, and one whimsically turned back ear. With TL test papers.

An original natural pigment pottery figure of a standing court lady wearing a short-sleeved tunic over a robe with long sleeves. Her interesting looped hairdo is parted into two bunches that rest atop the sides of her head. The figure has most of the original pigments, some of which have worn off over the years.Very difficult to find one that has not been restored. Lovely Qing Dynasty amber colored agate ovoid form snuff bottle, with an oval foot rim surrounding a shallowly recessed flat base, with mask handles on each side. A rare jade archer,s ring, which to me is the actual archers ring used with the bow and arrow rather then the better know thumb ring which is more a piece of jewelry. It was used on the thumb, that's where the "thumb ring" comes from and more than likely on a gloved hand due to the size. See the last three photos of a similar one in a Chinese jade book.
