This is a beautiful pair of mixed metal decorated bronze vases. They are highly detailed and stand just 5 inches. Both vases are signed Miyabe Atsuyoshi. One vase has a lightly bent rim otherwise the condition of the pair is excellent.

Frog on a water lily and a lotus root at the base. The whole is in bronze with a dark brown patina.

In the Japanese bestiary, the frog has a special place, carrying positive values. Both the frog and the toad, called kaeru, come back every year, no matter how far away they are from the pond where they were born. The word Kaeru is a synonym for "coming home". It is the protective animal for travelers and the symbol of hospitality...

Ca. early 1800s

This incense burner is cast with a low relief design of mythical beasts among vegetation. It is raised on four feet and has separately attached dragon-form handles. It retains its original rich brown patina with old residue on the interior from many years of use. Acquired in the mid 1970s in Kyoto. Good condition.

An iron and copper alloy black lacquered Tsuba of mokko-gata form with dragon in clouds pattern indistinctly signed. It measures 7.5cm (2.98ins) by 7cm ((2.8ins) approximately 4.78mm (0.19 inches). For condition please see images, some minor corrosion, rust in places. Shipping at Cost.

An exquisite dark bronze image of the deity Benzaiten playing a four stringed lute known as a Biwa signed in a cartouche inset into the base and dating from the early 20th century (Later Meiji to taisho period). The figure is 20 x 16 x 18 cm (8 x 6 x 7 inches) and is in excellent condition.

A taotie mask to the neck and further pendant Taotie masks of shield form, cicada, arranged around the shoulder of the vase. The foot of the base decorated with further Taotie style motifs. It is 1.25 inches (3 cm) tall by 3.25 inches (8.5 cm) in length by 1.75 inches (4.75 cm) wide.

It is in good condition with no repairs, dents, or cracks, except missing 2 nails and a very small chip at the tip of his tail (as seen in the photos).
