This is a finely carved and lacquered wood Ojime in the form of a Double-Sided Kyogen (Japanese Theater) character masks depicting Okina on one side and Okame on the reverse, with mother-of-pearl inlays. The center cord hole or himotoshi are lined with shakudo or copper and gold alloy. It is not signed, but is attributed to Hozan, a netsuke-shi who worked in wood with metals and lacquer accents in Early 19th century. He was a pupil of Hojitsu...

This is a japanese antique indigo dye cotto tsutsugaki futon cover.It is a design of plovers, waves and family crests.Hand-spun, natural indigo-dyed cotton that is thick and has a very nice texture.There is a very light stain, but it is not noticeable. An antique Fubako, letter box, of a rarely seen design with a black ground having a flowing gold sprinkled pattern featuring wheel and wind/water designs in relief. There is also a lovely sprinkled design to the interior. The exterior bottom, which is covered when the box is closed, has the wheel designs and is very bright showing very little if any wear. Still retaining its original silk tasseled roping, this box is in superb condition...

These very well carved and polished crabs are a late Meiji period product. They are about 4” wide, 2 ½” high and 1 ½” thick. Aside from some small old repair and hair line cracks due to their age, they are in great condition.

This is an old and well done Japanese Satsuma box. The design has a wonderful contrast between the simplistic over glazed enamel water elements and the refined, highly detailed gold wheels. The inside is covered with a layer of gold. The box is not signed but we think it could have possibly come from the Makuzu Kozan studio because of its quality and uniqueness. Makuzu Kozan did some work in earthenware and came up with many wonderful designs. We also know that they were not all signed...

Very refined zushi with the sculpture of the bodhisattva Jizo. He stands on a lotus throne on rocks, holding a jewel in his left hand, his right hand missing. Behind his head a halo with very fine decoration in relief of clouds and jewels. Light wood with polychrome and gorgeous gold decoration, especially on the garment. Japan, Edo period, 19th century.

A rather unusual Arita dish of barbed or lotus form with a fluted cavetto based on a 17th century Chinese model. The rim decorated with a chocolate brown fuchibeni glaze and the border decorated with the auspicious bagua, eight trigrams, with a central motif showing a pair of humorously painted Chinese priests The right hand portion of the design obscured by what appears to be a stylised curtain. The reverse decorated with a floral scroll...

1920s Japanese ceramic tokkuri - sake bottle - with body pinched on 3 sides, one indent containing a low relief figure of standing Hotei (one of the 7 Gods of Good Luck and incarnation of Maitreya - the Buddha of the future). The piece was made at Bizen kilns, characteristic brown clay body, beautiful patina. Clever design, very pleasant to hold, in excellent condition. Height 7 1/8 inches.

Waraji (straw sandal) Gata (mold). This mold was used to make the straw sandals worn by farmers. It is of solid carved wood. L. 50cm(19.75") x H.9cm(3.5") x W.9cm(3.5"). Acquired in Yamagata Prefecture in NE Japan (Tohoku), this piece exhibits the wonderful folk qualities of the region. Hung vertically, the "shelf" portion of the mold can hold a small flower vase, creating a lovely "wabi" arrangement for the tokonoma.

This is a Very rare in the Edo period Asamai-shibori textile.It's handspun & natural indigo dye cotton. The texture of this thick indigo-dyed cotton has the characteristics of the Edo period. A beautiful pair of Japanese bowls by Koransha, “the company of the scented orchid”, c 1920 or earlier. Decoration in under-glaze blue of leaves, and berries and smaller leaves in over-glaze red and turquoise. Height "2¼/ 6 cm, diameter "4/ 10,5 cm. Condition: restored chip to foot-rim of one bowl, as seen on photos.

Antique Japanese large hanging Buddhist temple lantern made of gilt copper. Elaborately designed with a three dimensional hexagonal form and decorated all over with pierced scrolling filigree featuring chrysanthemum blossoms and swirling mist. Smaller friezes display ocean waves. Raised roundels with peonies decorate the feet. The interior is lined with rice paper.

This is possibly a card or ticket case made of rare piece of bingata cotton cloth. Bingata is katazome ( stencil-dyeing ) produced in Ryukyu islands ( now Okinawa ). This bingata was produced in 19th century, but this case might have been made later, early 20th century ( sewn by machine ). The lining is silk. In excellent condition. 13cm x 7.7cm
