Very unusual largeJapanese rope embroidery on silk, the image is a pair of phoenixes, male and female, with the moon waxing and waning (full and crest). This is a privileged image made specially for the court. The pagoda shrine is central to the image centered around the imperial Tokugawa crest symbolizing the divine rule from heaven.

Chinese Export Porcelain Cafe Au Lait and Famille Rose overglaze decorated Tea Bowl, Ca. 1790, 2 7/8" diameter, 1 5/8" high, with Famille Rose Peony flowers inside 2 Maple Leaf shape Cartouches and Peaches, between Cafe Au Lait glaze on the outer side of the bowl. There are kiln imperfection spots, no damages.

The U-shaped body with broad flaring mouth supported on three tall splayed legs, cast around the body with a key-fret band and to the underside of the spout with a nine character Mark. Very nice patina. H : 15,8 cm. L : 17,9 cm. Condition: Perfect. Please see a similar example in the collection of the British Museum. Another similar example was sold at Sotheby's. The size of Bowl: 6" Dia x 1 3/8" High. This is beautiful and Rare Japanese Old Kutani Bowl from early Meiji, 1870-1890. It is made of fine porcelain. It has the design of Taka (Japanese Hawk), with Fuji Mountain, Pine Tree with the decoration of Karakusa done with gold work, The pine tree are painted with fine brush works. It is not outlined work like commercial painting items. There is Sun or Moon design behind the Hawk. Outside of bowl has cherry blossom leaves with Genji Kou design...

Iron kozuka inlaid with a bronze or brass lobster.Details in silver. Simple but powerful good work. It reminds me of the Onin style tsuba. This kozuka seems to me very old 18 ° or before. Its simple appearance while being of good quality, its solidity makes me think that it was not made during the peaceful and sumptuous Edo period but before during the agitated war period of Muromachi. An intriguing set of five small dishes kozara decorated in kakiwake sometsuke style with a design of three Chinese boys, karako, manoeuvring a large snow ball, set within a yukiwa snow flake shaped reserve framed by a band of plum blossom set against a dark blue ground. The design is a variant of the “One hundred boys playing” pattern popular on Chinese porcelain from at least the Yongle period...

A massive imari vase with decoration of the Genroku era of bijin (a beauty) and hana (flowers) on two opposing panels alternating with two more opposing panels of a structure (tea house?) in garden landscape - all in red, gold and black enamels with blue underglaze. Similar landscape decorated panels appear on the shoulder over a ground of hanabishi (flowery diamond) in repeating diamond bordered pattern...

Chinese jade seal with a serpentine chimera coiled around the top. The chimera body is finely and continuously carved with the beast's horns are carved connected to its back and its tail curls around to connect with its front leg. Dates from the Ming dynasty.

This iron axe head or chisel dates to the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8). Surviving iron objects of this age are very rare. This example does of course have rust and corrosion, there is a small part missing at the open end together with some cracks, but it is free from restoration or repair...
