An attractive black Chinese QING Dynasty Leather Chest nicely painted with red and gold pigments. The front is centered with a hasp and the chest has handles on both sides. Outer border of scroll-work, the well with a bird and a blossoming tree motif within a diaper border, all in under-glaze blue and iron red and gilt over the glaze. Diameter "8¾/ 22,5 cm. The exterior with a light Café-au-lait variation of the brown “Batavia” glaze (Batavia being the Dutch name for the VOC shipping harbour, today's Jakarta). Yongzheng, early 18th century, the base with a shop mark. Diameter of saucer "4 ½ / 11.5 cm, height of cup "1 2/3/ 4.3 cm. Condition: the cup with three chips to the rim and foot rim, two of them with old repairs (cf. pics).

Very rare, Gulong Miao children’s jacket from Guizhou. This is a side opening style, made from all hand woven cloth (except for the inner sleeve lining) with hand embroidered anthropomorphic figures, on a calendared greenish cotton ground. Small and elegant vase from around 1900, silver thread cloisonne enamel depicting flowers and birds in the style of Hayashi Kodenji. Auspicious Kanji mark to base: great happiness (?). Height "6/ 15.3 cm. Condition: enamel loss on the shoulder covered with black paint (cf. pics) and an associated scratch mark.

The larger one is an Araimudi, in the shape of fig leaf and was by worn by young village girls to protect their “modesty”, the smaller one was probably worn as an amulet with a granulated image of a feminine deity. 18th century Japanese iron sword kashira (metal pommel at the end of the hilt) with inlaid brass dragonfly. Crisp detailed work with fine veining on its wings, wonderful feel of age. Very clever and neat piece. Length 1.46 inches.
18th century or earlier unsigned iron Japanese sword tsuba depicting four scholars and an attendant boy in a bamboo grove. Nicely designed piece with copper, bronze and silver inlays with gilding, old deterioration to both top and bottom part, but the design and detailing is there - see their faves and robe patterns.
