19th century Chinese export napkin ring carved on the outside with 3 reserves containing scenes of Chinese scholars in different settings. Wonderful work with deep undercutting, beautiful patina, in excellent condition. Inside diameter 1 1/4 inches, height 1 inch.

Antique Chinese gilt bronze Medicine Buddha, seated on lotus throne base. With hands held together upright on his lap. Eyes downcast in meditation. Base closed with cover embossed with the visvavajra or double vajra, symbolic of the thunderbolt and diamond. Wear consistent with age.

Very fine, signed, men’s blanket from the Biboki, Feotle'u area West Timor, Indonesia. The the name of the weaver’s family, were woven into this. W: 114cm/44.8in and L: 186cm/73in, except for the yellow and blue lines this is woven from all naturally dyed handspun thread. Dating circa 1950 to 1960.
AN ARITA BLUE & WHITE MOKKO DISH, 2ND HALF OF THE 18TH CENTURY.
An attractive mokko (lobed) and moulded dish decorated with a figure seated beneath mist enshrouded trees. The cavetto is moulded with swirls and flowers, the rim with a dark iron rich kuchibeni dressing.

This is one of the best Shounai-Noren used in Shonai, Yamagata area for Edo period.
As for the hemp of this item, a delicate thread spun by hand is used.
The pattern is full of Chadougu which was popular in Shikoku.
Chadougu is an instrument used at tea ceremony.
The Chadougu design reached shounai by a goods-carrying merchant ship.
The artist Fujita displayed cloth full of Chadougu in the atelier of Japan. There was the picture near a great painter without sense of incongruity...
Very large inro with 6 cases, black lacquer (roiro) applied with mother-of-pearl (aogaï) decoration of deer in light relief and a crescent moon in white metal (pewter or silver) inlaid. Early Edo period around 1700.
The solid lacquer resisted well to impacts and the wear of time but the applications of extremely fine mother-of-pearl sheets are much worn or worn as can be seen in the photos.

This is a large amulet with two holes for suspension and was most probably used as a chest piece (pectoral). The polish is so spectacularly well done that the piece feels as smooth as silk when held. The large central hole gently tapers on both sides. It measures a full 4" in length and is 2-1/2" in height. Roughly 1/8" thick. In color a varied green nephrite with a minimal residue of the polishing material remaining on the surface.
