Exceptionally LARGE Chinese Neolithic / Bronze Age Impressed Pottery Jar with Oxford TL Test

This extremely rare and imposing pottery jar dates to the around the 1st millennium BC, the late Chinese Neolithic / Bronze Age period. It is, without doubt, the largest and most substantial pottery jar we have ever encountered from this period. Antique Japanese tall ikebana basket made of wide and flat strips of split bamboo. The mouth and overall shape is an elongated square with a curved handle made of two pieces of bamboo woven together. The corners of the basket are reinforced with bamboo and knot work. The bamboo has a dark, rich finish...

It was carved by a late Meiji period (1868~1911) artist Tozan (東山). It depicts a smiling wood cutter taking a break and tying his straw sandal lace. A sparrow is resting on his straw hat. It is 6 1/5" high, 3 7/16" wide (from the bottom) and 3" thick (from the bottom). Aside from two hair line cracks; one on his back head and one on the bottom, it is in great condition.

1900's Chinese Paktong White Copper Enamel Hand Warmer

It is 5.9 inches (15 cm) tall measured with handle up and 3.9 inches (10 cm) tall measured with handle down by 6.3 inches (16 cm) wide. It is 2 Lb.

It has a drilled hole at the side of the body, missing enamels, tarnished metal, oxidations, and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos).

There are a total of eight signs, each with a different "saying" having to do with well wishes. Due to the age of the calligraphy, and the vagueres of the old Chinese language, accurate translations have not been possible for each sign. Each sign is carved out of wood with raised wooden characters and inlayed with MOP flakes. Each is 21 inches tall and roughly 4.5 inches wide. A Chinese painted grey pottery figure of a standing musician, very well modelled wearing a wind hat, his head turned down to the right. 20 cms. Northern Wei dynasty, 5th/6th century AD. Oxford TL Test Certificate. This is a rare figure. To date I have only seen one other musician from the same set.

Ivory netsuke representing a teacher sitting beside his disciple, the latter holding a book with his right hand and a "shishi lion" mask with his left hand. The netsuke is signed, also bears a small red mark, beneath. Japan, 19th century. Length: 40 mm. Height: 24 mm. Very good condition.

Museum quality Edo Period C.1860 zen temple mizubachi. Lost wax cast with a great dragon spout in grand detail and spectacular shishi mythical lion ornament on the top of the lid. The diaper motif on the base is in raised relief and equally spectacular. The spigot on the dragon head is permanent so we are assuming that there was a constant water flow. Very slight indentation on one of the hanging jewels but so slight you can only see at the right angle. H:51cm x W: 43cm. Ask for shipping quote.

A Korean Rare/Fine Celadon Inlaid Foliate Decagonal Shallow Dish: Korea, Koryo period, 12th -13th Century, This shallow dish is a very rare with foliaged rim, each lobe has a black and white slip inlaid with chrysanthemum flower head on the exterior, and the interior is molded with a central flower head medallion surrounded by a lobed design. It is applied overall with a thick rich celadon glaze with three spur marks. It is in fine condition except a tiny hair line crack on the rim...

This pair of cups belong to superior class of delicately enameled Yongzheng export wares. There's a bowl and saucer in the same pattern in the collection of King Augustus the Strong (see last photo).

Antique Japanese cylindrical hibachi made of bent suginoki (cryptomeria) and decorated with a maki-e lacquer scene of a family of chickens in a bamboo grove. The mother hen and two chicks look for food on the ground while their father rooster looks back at his third little chick. Bamboo details are made of inlaid shell and the background is flecked in gold. With a copper insert.

Antique Korean bowl with crackle celadon glaze. The bowl's interior is incised with design of flowers and filigree, with a line incision just below the rim. The outer body is slightly ribbed, tapering to the recessed foot.

Very soft clay modeled in a mold and fired at low heat. Painted with gofun (ground eggshell producing the white color), natural/mineral pigments and gold, applied after the figure has cooled...

This is a special old Japanese Imari bowl. The crane design and use of enamels is very attractive. The piece looks similar to some of the early Fukagawa pieces. Condition is very good and there is mainly wear to the gold trim on the top rim. This heavy bowl measures 7 inches across and stands 3 1/4 tall.

This is a Song dynasty (960 – 1276) porcelain cosmetic box and cover. The sides and bottom half is ribbed to look like a melon form, the recessed top is moulded in the form of a stylised double flower with a short stalk. The box is covered in a pale bluish glaze of yingqing type, which pools in the crevasses to an aquamarine tone. The rims and base are unglazed, exposing the white porcellanous body underneath...

Chinese Nyonya Ware plate with a foliated base painted with pomegranates, peaches and bats symbolizing fruitfulness, prosperity and happiness. Nyonya wares are over-glaze polychrome enamelled porcelains made in Jingdezhen in the Kiangsi province of China for the Straits Chinese, or Babas, whose female counterparts are called Nyonyas, hence the term Nonya ware. An exceedingly rare ancient Japanese Heian (794-1185) or Nara Period (710-794) Engraved Bronze Tortoise. The entire shell, front and back, has engraved artistic images of the people and symbols of the era. The tortoise is a symbol of wisdom, and is able to defend itself on its own. It personifies Water, Moon, Mother Earth, Time, Immortality, and Fertility. Creation is associated with the tortoise and it is also believed that the tortoise bears the burden of the whole world...

Antique Chinese porcelain bowl, made extremely thin, with gilt enamel along its rim. The inside of the bowl has a gilt shou symbol (Chinese character for longevity), lined in red and surrounded by five red lucky bats.
