Japanese Oshi-e Ningyô of Two Kabuki Actors. 12 x 8.75 inches each, 30.5 x 22.25 cm each. These were very popular during the Meiji Period; over 400 million dollars in sales (in current currency) was recorded in 1888. The characteristics of Matsumoto Oshi-e Ningyô are that the design is stuffed heavily with cotton and the faces are painted in Ukiyo-e (the floating world of Edo period) style. It is very rare to find old Oshi-e Ningyô in this quality and size today...

A charming antique Chinese basket with basket weave bottom. The inside of the basket is lacquered in red over black, while the rim and exterior are black lacquered with gilt lacquer banding and motifs of butterflies, fruits, and flowers. The basket has a lovely patina and wear consistent with age.

Japanese iron tsuba, an important fitting on a samurai's sword to protect their hands from the blade and provide balance. Decorated with relief gold lacquer image of a gourd and opposing catfish.
The backside of the tsuba is gold plated, with commemorative inscription "Bill - Christmas, 1972". The plating is signed with 14k and 18k gold marks, and stamped Potter Mellen. With custom base.

Chinese jade carving known as a cong, an implement dating back to Neolithic China, once used for unknown but culturally important reasons. The cong is often seen with squared outer edges carved of a taotie or beast's mask, which the inside is smoothed round with a central groove. The stone's coloring is light green with mottled brown.
