A fine and rare incense burner for the scholar’s table of carved and polished black stone. Rectangular in shape, a pair of open-work handles in the form of scrolls on four short legs. The two main sides carved with dragons in archaic style. China, mid-Qing, 18th cent. W 9 cm, D 4.5 cm, H 5 cm. Condition: Super (minor wear due to age, but very good patina all-over).

A very beautiful potted tea bowl or cup decorated full exterior and interior in white slip, with a central flower head medallion, surrounded by a wide band of “rope curtain” pattern, and a narrow band of an abstract design. beneath a pale celadon glaze, set on a raised ring foot unglazed. It’s in very fine condition, measures12.3cm x 5.2cm h.

Delightful Japanese antique tetsubin (tea pot), made of cast iron. The handle is beautifully shaped. The lid is of bronze with a flower bud as the lid handle. The lid is is also signed by the noted tetsubin studio of Kinjudo. Age: Meiji Period. Size: 7.5" high (including handle) x 7.125" wide (including spout).

18th Century Edo Period Saga Ningyo of a young boy holding a rooster in one hand and a scepter in the other. His head bobs while his tongue goes in and out. Carved entirely of wood, his robes are built up with pigments in a technique called 'moriage'. He has a gorgeous blue outer robe decorated with foliate scroll slightly raised in relief. Japanese inro with 5 compartments decorated all around with a scene of a mountain stream running down hill through rocks and low tree branches. On one side of the inro, the stream falls over rocks and continues on the other side of the inro in a striated current. Various trees including blossoming fruit trees and pines spring from the rocks.
