Late Qing Dynasty (1890-1911) Chinese soapstone brush rest carved on the front with 2 scholars in discussion by a hut among trees. Very nice feature - the back shows the natural skin of the soapstone boulder from which the object was carved. Strong simple carving, excellent scholarly simplicity to the piece, very pleasant feel of age, wonderful item for a scholar’s desk. Length 3.14 inches, height 1.83 inches.

Unusual late Qing Dynasty (1890s to 1911) Chinese glass scholar’s rock in a shape of a dramatic solitary mountain. Beautifully made, provides several views, wonderful transparent glass in excellent condition, marked on the bottom with 2 carved Chinese characters that can be translated as “WITHOUT CLOUDS”. Very unusual late Qing Dynasty (1890s to 1911) Chinese scholar’s rock in a form of a natural mineral cluster wonderfully resembling a prickly pine tree. The stone is many-sided, providing different complete views. Beautiful object with extraordinary rich textured surface, fixed in newer fitted hardwood stand. I believe the mineral to be aragonite. Wonderful object for contemplation on scholar’s desk, beautiful patina. Height with stand 5 1/8 inches.

This early 20th century Chinese jade (nephrite) carving of three goats is 3” high, 4 ¼” long and 1 ¾” in depth. It depicts three long horned goats climbing on a mountain surrounded by pine trees. This is a very popular image called “San Yang Kai Tai”. The I-Ching (Book of Changes) goes to great lengths to describe “Yin” and “Yang”. “Yin” is represented by the moon (female or negative); it is the opposite of “Yang” (male or positive) which is represented by the sun...

This charming pair of old Chinese lotus shoes were made from a sturdy cotton fabric and embroidered with cotton thread. The lack of silk matterials would indicate that the maker/wearer was probably from a less afluent family. The soles indicate are well worn but the vamps are in very good condition.

Gorgeous silken Chinese rank badge with a navy blue background, golden stitching along its base, borders and accenting throughout, image of a silvery green pheasant standing on a rock, a fish jumping out at it from the water, and many designs of flowers, and clouds in various vivid shades of blue. Rank badges were to be worn on the front of a robe to show ranking and status of the elite in imperial China during the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties...

This pair of beaded strips are actually shoes parts which would have been sewn with other matching beaded fabric parts to form a pair of beaded shoes.
