An actor in street attire standing in front of a row of shops and tea houses by Osaka artist Sadahiro (active 1830-1851) dating circa 1845. A pupil of Kunisada, Sadahiro's woodblock prints were published in Osaka in the 1830's and 1840's. The seal of the publisher Iseya Sensaburo appears on the actor's head. This late 19th or early 20th century Japanese Imari vase is 13 ½” high and 6 ½” on the widest part. The ribbed body was painted a traditional gold, orange and blue floral and bird design. There is a Shishi (lion) on the top of the domed shape lid. It is in great condition.

Exquisite antique Japanese Hina Ningyo (dolls) for Hina Matsuri festival, the Girl’s in Japan. This early 20th century Japanese carved bone and tagua statue is 6 ¼” high, 2” wide (the base is 2 5/8” wide) and 1 ¾” thick. It depicts a man who appears to be a merchant. His left hand carries a pouch; his right hand is raised up and holds an unknown subject. His body was carved from bone and his head was carved from tagua (vegetable ivory). Aside from a small repair on the collar, it is in good condition.

Storage jar with beautiful dark brown glaze drippings from the neck and shoulder down, over a dark brown stone ware with countless inclusions. Around the neck engraved with cross pattern. Shape somewhat distorted. Height 11 inches, width 10 inches. Two short cracks at the rim, one small chip at the rim, glaze partly rubbed due to extensive usage. Overall condition good. Japan 18/19th century.

This early 20th century South East Asian bone carving is 7” high, 1 ¼” wide and 1 ½” thick. It depicts a deity sitting in a lotus position on a Phoenix throne. His/her hands are held together in prayer. Aside from two tiny pieces missing from the throne, it is in great condition.

This miniature Japanese blue and white Imari vase is an early 20th century product. It is 3 ¾” high and 2 ¼” at its widest part. A fan shaped design painted with a landscape and tree adorn the neck of the vase. Morning glory, chrysanthemum and unknown flowers are painted on the body. Though small, the painting is very well presented. Aside from two cracks, one on the bottom and one on the side of the fan due to firing, it is in excellent condition.

This well carved late Meiji Period (1868~1911) wood okimono is 2 ¾” high, 3” wide and 2” thick. It depicts a sitting Hotai with big smile on his face. It is signed “Chikamitsu” and is in excellent condition.

Blue and white tea bowl with scalloped rim and pagoda decoration, Qianlong c 1760-80. Interestingly, the Chinese decorator has made an abrupt cut in the mountainous landscape scene (cf. picture 3) so as to give an impression of a printed pattern, the way it is sometimes seen on early English - competitive - transferware where this of course always was a mistake due to this new technology.
