DESCRIPTION: A Chinese scholar’s calligraphy brush, the brush crafted with natural bristles encased in a horn ferrule. These are secured with a silver band to a pitted green jade handle inscribed with archaic characters and terminating in a round knob. A quality, well made brush in excellent condition, most likely dating to the latter Qing Dynasty to early republic Period. DIMENSIONS: 9 ¼” long (23.5 cm).

This is Chuya-Obi used for Edo period. In Chuya-Obi, one side is twill fabrics, and other aspects are black satin. As for this, the basics of twill fabrics are dyed with a natural indigo plant. And a thread dyed with other plant dye is interwoven. The black satin side has 2.3 places of split points. The twill fabrics side has some stains, but does not stand out. An impressive magnifying glass with a carved ivory handle with 18 natural red coral beads. We believe the ivory handle to be a Meiji period Japanese parasol handle and sometime in its history converted to a magnifying glass. In very good antique condition with all beads intact, the handle measures 5 inches x 1 1/8". Magnifying glass with handle is 10.5 inches long.

Exceptionally elegant red vermillion lacquered zen buddhist temple sutra table in its original signed and dated box. Dated Keio gannen 8 (c.1865) the tapered legs and metal fittings on the table top indicate this was made for a rich temple. 37cm tall and 53cm wide the very top is in its own cotton wrapping. Finely enamelled to the exterior with fibrant famille rose enamels with medallions with birds, sitting on flowering twigs. Nineteenth century. Diameter : 21,8 H : 11,5 cm. Condition : Here and there some marginal wear to the enamels, the copper bodies of the jardinieres in perfect condition.

This tripod censer is raised on three animal-masked feet that support its large, rounded body. The rim is decorated with a key fret design, and the body has ten lappets composed of stylized mask and key fret designs all in low relief. It retains its original brown patina overall with a deep greenish gray interior from use. Good condition.

Chinese Jadeite Jade hard stone carved Lotus flower shape Pendant, 1 3/8" high, 1 7/8" wide, 3/8" thick, with carved incised lines of flower pedals, some natural infusions in the stone, the condition is good.

This portrait of a saint is thickly painted with old losses, particularly to part of the right background. There is an old date label on back. Old worm damage is visible on the back.

This candlestick is cast in the form of a medieval, possibly English, bearded ma. The candle cups and base are attached by a hand-cut screw that formed part of the casting. It has an old, though not original patina. It is in good condition.

This tray has a well-painted floral design with green arabesques covering the interior. The exterior is lacquered black and undecorated. There is an overall crackle effect to the interior. There is no flaking, and old separations along the base and sides are stable. Generally, it is in good condition with only modest wear to the interior.

Mid 1800s

This vase, of a pale amethyst tone, was hand-blown with slightly fluted vertical segments from top to bottom. It is decorated in colored enamels that are lightly raised and enhanced by gold enamel, now somewhat worn. It is in good condition.

Late 1800s

This pale buff earthenware vase is painted with a fairly elaborate Moorish design derived from Middle Eastern ceramics. The front is tin glazed, and the back is largely unglazed, exposing the earthenware body. Two loop handles are attached to the shoulder for suspension. There is a small old chip to the lip of the opening. There are some small glaze skips from firing, and some old wear from use. No cracks or repairs.
