Antique Japanese theatre mask, skillfully hand-carved into the face of a tengu, or birdlike spirit, characterized by an usually long nose. His face is painted in red lacquer with black facial hair, and gold-lacquered eyes typical of a demon. The insides bears the usual rough chisel markings of a finely hand-carved piece. An antique small tansu of kiri wood from the Taisho period. Sliding doors behind which books and small objects were stored. Lower drawers were used to store documents, photos, ephemera, receipts, etc.

Chinese glazed, green porcelain water dropper, in a zoomorphic form resembling a canine, with finely etched "hairs" along its body. It is baring its teeth and has three holes, two in its mouth (one plugged, the other open for the flow of water) and one in its back to be filled with water. Antique Japanese painted ceramic figure of seated Daruma. Made from a mold and painted, this is an unusually expressive and detailed depiction of Bodhidharma, the monk founder of Zen Buddhism. He has his traditionally intense expression and, in this case, his robes are decorated with flowers. Daruma is a popular good luck symbol for prosperity and perseverance.

A striking Peacock feather colored flambe glazed vase by Leading Kyoto Potter Uno Ninmatsu enclosed in a signed wooden box dated the 10th month of Showa 5 (October 1930). It is 28 cm tall and in excellent condition.
Uno Ninmatsu (1864-1937) was born in Kyoto son of potter Wada Sohei and studied under his father as well as from a young age Seifu Yohei II then future Imperial Art Academy artist Seifu Yohei III until setting up his own studio at the age of 21...

Special offer: Heavily distorted shoe shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl with a strongly flaring mouth made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potters knife in its lower part and covered with a very deep black iron oxide glaze inside and outside.

A 'window' on the side has been left unglazed and is decorated with a square divided into two white and two black section accompanied on each side by two circles with the same patterns...

A rectangular repoussé box, decorated with peony, floral sprays and Buddhist symbols. The sides decorated with meanders, the back with floral motives and a ‘Shou’ character, symbolizing longevity. Both sides of the box have gilded details. Dimensions: 10 x 8,5 x 4,5 cm. Weight: 242 g. The box is in very good condition and has normal age wear. Date: 19th to early 20th century.

Large and well hand carved Chinese wooden statue of Confucius from the Qing Period, around 1850.

It is made of one piece of wood and has a fine red laquer and rests of gilt color. Very nice display item!

Confucius was a Chinese teacher, editor, politician, and philosopher of the Spring and Autumn period of Chinese history.

The philosophy of Confucius emphasized personal and governmental morality, correctness of social relationships, justice and sincerity...

Key fret pattern along the base with a background of Chrysanthemum blossoms and a repeating eight window floral design along the top. Unusual mushroom style pedestal shape.

A very rare lobed spittoon enameled with floral decorations very unusual colors, like yellow and purple. Diameter 8,4 cm, H. 4,8 cm. Good condition with normal age wear. Ca. late 19th century.

Late Edo period (19cc) Shino ware Chawan for tea ceremony Wabi Sabi

The fine crackle look with natural kiln vivid cracks gives the bowl an authentic wabi sabi feel.
Overall, it is a great example of an old, beautifully crafted Shino tea bowl.

Shino pottery is produced in today's Gifu prefecture since 16th century and it is distinguished by thick white glazes, red marks and the surface of small holes.

A wide hira-jawan decorated with inlaid white slip in the pattern of flowers and rope. The Mishima style of pottery is modeled after much earlier Korean forms—most notably Punch'ŏng. The gold repairs are extensive and skillfully applied, nicely complimenting the pale ash glaze and adding an extra dimension to this lovely work.
