Very nice example of Meiji Period (1868-1912) Nezumi Shino Ware Chawan for Tea Ceremony. Shino pottery is produced in today's Gifu prefecture since 16th century and it is distinguished by thick white glazes, red marks and the surface of small holes. This is a bangle or disc made from what I believe to be calcite. I am listing this and several other items that were part of the Chad Herrington collection. Most, if not all, the items from this collection were auctioned off a few years ago. Mr Herrington attributed these objects to roughly 1000-700 BCE to minority cultures in southeast Asia. A six sided Nyonya bowl with three "gold" fish and sea plants for good luck. Nyonya wares are over-glaze polychrome enamelled porcelains made in Jingdezhen in the Kiangsi province of China for the Straits Chinese, or Babas, whose female counterparts are called Nyonyas, hence the term Nyonya ware. Nonya wares were mainly reserved for festive occasions and special functions. Size: 15cm. H. 5.6cm. Condition: No repairs or chips. Some wear on the inside of the bowl.

Antique 19th century North African Islamic Moroccan, Berber terracotta pottery double handled vessel in the form of amphora. The vessel is hand painted around the body and neck, in pale red and black, with classic Berber tribal geometrical designs.

MEASUREMENTS: Height: 27 cm (10.63 inches). Width:(at widest point): 17cm (6.69 inches).

CONDITION: In good condition considering its age. It shows its age and uses, with nice old patina. No repairs or restorations.

Netsuke - A mask carver, by Masayuki. The carver is holding his lasted creation, a chisel resting in his other hand. Evidently satisfied with his work, the carver twists his face into the same expression of that of this subject- a kyogen mask of the "liar" (usofuki) type, one eye closed and the lips pursed into a sideways whistle. Japan, Asakusa, Edo (1603-1868) 19th century.

Extraordinary, rare and very old ancestral statue, "korwar", carved from single piece of wood representing a standing human figure on a rounded base with a symbolically oversized skull head, with a lodging on top to accommodate a real partial ancestor skull. An antique Japanese Choba Tansu (merchant chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. It is comprised of 8 drawers of varying sizes and a pair of sliding doors that hides a spacious area where store records and account books were stored. Side handles were used to carry this Tansu from place to place. It would make a great side chest for any room decor.

From our collection of unique Japanese Tea Bowls we present you another rare piece of art: a Japanese Wan-Nari Chawan with Urushi lacquer, shaped in wabi-sabi tradition in the 19th century (late Edo Period 1603-1868). Wan Nari (椀形) Chawan are quite rare and a fine addition to any collection of Japanese Chawan. It is the only one we were able to acquire in the 20th century.
