Exceptional bronze applique of a head of Dionysos with ivy wreath and with silver inlaid eyes, probably a furniture fitting, Roman, 2nd - 3rd century AD.

The cylinder seal is carved in fine white-beige stone, and can be dated to Mesopotamia, Late Jemdet Nasr period, c. 3000-2900 BC. (Collon, period 1B).

The impressive seal is carved with 4 horned animals in very deep relief all the way around the thick cylinder.

Size: 30 mm. tall and 24 mm. wide.

Condition: Very fine, intact with some wear and corrosion and quite attractive.

An unusual Edo period Oribe serving bowl, the color filled crackled glaze decorated with scrolling lines in iron and splashes of copper green. Both inside and out hash mars denote a bamboo fence with blossoms in the fore. A handle and raised architectural elements around the rim and rising to the mouth echo some western influence, possibly indicating original Christian use. It comes resting on a silk pillow in a age-blackened wooden box titled Oribe Katakuchi...

An extremely rare scarab seal, carved as an Udjat eye in grey-brown steatite, Egypt, New Kingdom, c. 15th.-14th. cent.

The eye is carved with great artistry, to creat a perfect Udjat eye with fine details and on the base, three strong hieroglyphs of the Ankh for giving Life the Uraeus and erect Cobra and lastly the flat Sun-disc.

The Ureaeus was the symbol of the Godess Wadjet and was used as a sign of Royal authority associated with Pharaos and gods...

Very refined earthenware vase, from the Satsuma kilns, with polychrome enamels, presents a decoration of courtesans (bijin) and a child under a flowering tree with on one side, in the background, a cottage at the foot of a hill. At the base of the collar, the shoulder is covered with chrysanthemum flowers. A barely legible mark under the base in a red lacquer cartouche, partly covered by a collector's label, could be attributed to Fujan (?). Height: 15 cm. Period: Meiji (1868-1912) 19/20th.

Globular in shape, on a nashiji gold lacquer base, the decoration represents pines and bamboo in gold and black hira maki-e, hedatsu and kirigane of vegetation at the edge of a watercourse and stylized medallions of chrysanthemums. Two Jubako stacking porcelain boxes enclosed in their unique wooden boxes which are both enclosed together in an additional outer wooden box for protection. According to the lid, the designs were by Kinoshita Itsuun and Uragami Gyokudo, and the pieces were made by Kawamoto Hansuke. This piece was made at the kiln in Henan pottery area. It is very popular to be called as "Henan tenmoku" which has black glaze with patterns of rusty glaze. The pattern tends to peel off because of overglaze, however this piece has patten clearly remained. Very rare pottery bowl and eclectic with Taoist imagery. This is made from a high fired light gray pottery, with traces of a white slip and depictions of musicians, dancers and “demon” masks. This is a funerary piece; the symbology suggests the transition from this world to the afterlife. D: 14cm/5.5in and H: 5.2cm/2in. No cracks original pigments with some kiln warpage

Good Qing Dynasty, Chinese nephrite jade carving of a lotus seed pod. In Chinese culture this symbolizes fertility and a desire to have many children on another level the lotus reflects purity, strength and rebirth- as it rises from the mud and blooms into something beautiful. Ancient Egyptian large black-topped Redware Vase, pre-Dynastic Naqada I period, c. 3750 BC. It's intact but shows signs of use, especially inside, from contents being stirred. It is 10" (25.4 cm) tall. It is authentic and nearly 6,000 years old.

Original pair of antique Thai cast bronze recumbent temple deer with three stag antlers. Each deer sits flat to the floor. Original bronzed patina, consistent with age. A lovely ancient Egyptian Scarab, c. 1800 BC, from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 1/2” long (13 mm) and made of steatite, an easy-to-carve stone that hardens when heated.
