This is a kagura costume made in the Tohoku region during the Meiji period. Kagura is a dance dedicated to the gods. Several types of pigments are used to paint this item. They are gold, green, bengara-red, yellow, white, brown and black. After first being dyed in beautiful indigo by Tsutsugaki, the painting is then painted freehand using pigments. There are no stains or scratches. It is in good condition.

An antique Japanese Ko Tansu (personal storage chest) made of Kirinoki (Paulownia) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. All original hand made iron fittings including the Warabite handles and finish. The front has a natural Kirinoki wood finish while the case was finished in a wiped Urushi lacquer technique. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails.

Antique Chinese small Hardwood ruyi scepter, beautifully hand-carved with a curved handle and a lotus pod on its end with freely moving lotus seeds. Ruyi scepters are used in Buddhist ceremonies to bring good fortune. 19th Century.

Antique Japanese red over black lacquer low table with negoro finish. It is decorated with incised scrolling leaves and floral design, scallop legs, circa 1910. It measures 35.5" wide 35.75" long 13.25" tall.
Chinese fan painting of a stand of bamboo growing near a group of moss-covered rocks. A poem written in the upper right hand corner says: 细竹千竿満地 which translates as "A thousand stalks of slender bamboo cover the ground". The seal is a bit hard to make out but appears to read: 鄭 Zhèng.
That character seems to also appear towards the end of the text.
The next character after it and in the seal is 名 (míng, 'name')...
Serene Thai Lanna Buddha, gilt wood, sitting on stepped and draped Throne, base shows age, but Buddha itself is in very good condition. This Position of Hands, i.e. in deep meditation, now rarely found in this size statue.

Chinese pewter snuff bottle in the form of a peach with three leaves, one leaf done in copper. The pewter stopper is formed like a natural stem with attached spoon. The snuff bottle rests on its own small hardwood tripod base.

Early 19th century, Kioto School Netsuke of two Playful Puppies. One of them is placing its paws on top of an awabi shell, while the other one is curiously placing its paws on its back. Excellent detail and great hairwork. Large eyes inlaid in dark horn. The spaces between the hind legs of a Puppy and the awabi shell serve as natural himotoshi, common of netsuke from the Edo Period. A Japanese tobacco tray, known as tabako bon in Japanese. The set comes with a hi-ire or the container for the charcoal, two drawers to put tobacco in and a kiseru or bamboo pipe. The tray is done in lacquer emulating the pattern on wood grain, as if the tray was done simply with wood and a light stain. The metal fittings on the handle are decorated with pine and the lid for the hiire is decorate with motif of gourds...
Wonderful Charming small Bizen ware handmade sculpture of a sitting dog. Nice detail work especially his eyes and ears and even the circular woven mat on which he sits. He has a collar and an alert expression. Original piece with no condition issues. Taisho Period. (1912-1926).

A beautifully colored mottled nephrite jade disc (sword-pommel) in colors of cream, rust and grey. In the center is a small hole encircled by flower petals. A double-lined rim borders the outer rim of the petals. A band of C-curl patterns extend to the double-lined outer rim. The surface of reverse side has a couple of cleavage planes natural to the stone.

This is a stunning Ruby Red Glass Snuff Bottle, finely carved in relief with the twelve Chinese Zodiac Animals. Rounded body with a leafy lappet border around the neck, and a raised oval footing. Coral and brass stopper.
