Japanese cloisonné bottle form lidded vase on a Satsuma earthenware substrate with "kidney bean" cloisons, signed in orange-red on the base "Kinkozan." The body of the vase is decorated with opposing blue flower filled cartouches with white borders set against a black background permeated with flowers. A small maiolica teapot and cover hand painted with rural scenes dominated by a tree in the foreground on either side. On the sides with the spout and the handle the decoration is the sky with birds. A rare sake-daru (Sake Keg) made of piled woven bamboo in combination with Japanese red lacquered pine. This tsuno-daru has two horn-like staves with inscriptions, a cross piece forming a carrying handle, and a wooden plug that pulls out. This saki barrel dates pre 1920. Sake casks such as this were prepared by sake factories to be used for special ceremonial occasions in the late 19th to the early 20th centuries. In excellent condition, it measures 21” tall and 7” in diameter.

An Arita serving bowl, namasu, of moulded simplified lotus form partially celadon glazed with a ko sometsuke style Sansui landscape in the well of the bowl framed by enamelled Chestnut branches outlined in gilt. The reverse plain and the interior of the foot-ring clear glazed. The bowl is typical of the output of the Higuchi kiln in the Nangawara valley which specialised in combing celadon and clear glazes. The bowl dates to the Horeki era and the mid 18th century. See Shibata Volume IV no 187 ...

A good quality five colour Imari deep bowl decorated with a meandering arabesque of double headed Peach flowers. Nin’ami Dohachi (born as Takahashi Mitsutoki; 1783-1855) worked in Awata until he set up a kiln in Fushimi, near Kyoto, in 1842. Dohachi was specialized in tea ceramics and was famous for his recreations of other styles in stoneware and porcelain, especially his efforts to revive the Ninsei and Kenzan styles.
