A lovely and exceptionally large sitting Pu-tai / Laughing Buddha, Thailand, ca. 18th. cent. perhaps even earlier.

An unusual wooden Buddha, laquered and gilt on a core of heavy tropical wood. Beautiful details and a real conversation piece.

A fine very large bronze buddha, Burma or Northern Thailand, ca. 18th. century.

He helds both of his hands in a gesture of exposition or teaching (vitarkamudra) that in India is confined to the right hand. He wears multible jewels and a large headdress and especially large earrings. He is standing on a small flat base and professionally mounted on round black wooden plint.

It is a very rare piece from excavation.
Made of the characteristic soapstone 布丁石 or 滑石 of the dated Tang periods, the item was made in shape by imitating the Persian ware which was affluent in that periods.
Two Similar porcelain pieces were found in the famous Idemitsu Museum出光美術館 of Japan and The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.

Netsuké in wood by Kokeï A rabbit with its small forming netsuké carved in cherry wood by Kokei. There is no the two hole, the himotoshi is naturally formed by a leg. Unlike most netsuké bearing Kokei's signature which are fakes or plagiarisms, this one is from the artist, indeed the quality is excellent. A Mt. Washington scalloped rim bowl decorated with orchids. The 3 3/4 inch diameter, 2 3/4 inch tall satin finish bowl has subtle diagonal ribs and a polished pontil mark. The color shades from pale lavender on the flared rim to colorless at the bottom. The coloration appears similar to the bowl shown in plate 10-17 on page 243 in Wilson’s “Mt Washington & Pairpoint Glass” and the decoration matches that on the sugar shaker in plate 10-18 of the same book.
