A pair of small “utility” knives made by Iban people of Sarawak, East Malaysia. These were frequently carried in the sheaths of their larger brothers, the Dayak mandau. The blades are hand forged, possibly scavenged steel from the leaf springs form an old car. Circa last half of the 20th century. Japanese half section Mizuya or kitchen buffet tansu. Constructed of Hinoki (cypress) and Sugi (cedar) wood. The piece opens by two large front sliding panels to the large interior with 2 recessed shelves. The sides of the chest have horizontal bracing slats for reinforcement.

This pair of porcelain plates was produced in England by Copelands China in the 1880s for the retailer J.E. Caldwell of Philadelphia. They measure 8 1/8 inches in diameter. The porcelain blanks are fluted and scalloped. The ground color is salmon pink. They are decorated with an elaborate pattern of raised enamel beads and intricate gilding. They are an example of the splendor of porcelain in the “Gilded Age”. These plates are exhibition worthy. Condition: Excellent

19th Century, Boxwood Netsuke finely hand-carved boxwood netsuke depicting a seated Hotei, the god of Contentment and Happiness, smiling and holding a Fan on his right hand. Signed Shogyoku on the bottom of the netsuke. Nice compact form; wonderful symmetry and patina. Netsuke measures 1.60 inches (4.,0cm) in diameter, and 1.15 inches (2.9cm) tall. It is in excellent condition, as you may be able to see in the posted photos.

An intricately hand carved wooden opium den lamp in the shape of a chair. The carving on the front bottom panel is a scene with 3 people. The central character seated at a table appears to be of the scholar class. The brackets on each side have a guardian figure. Used to illuminate Chinese opium dens, lamps like this were often their only source of lighting. The lamp’s burner bowl is stoneware is most likely a replacement...

Most likely made, based on its style, during the first half of the 19th century. It is very colorfully decorated with enameled Bajixiang (Eight Buddhist Auspicious Symbols) Emblems. Unusual 19th century Japanese carved wooden head of a scholar. Was carved and, judging by patina, most probably used, as the top of a votive statue. Wonderfully captured facial expression, beautiful patina, inscribed in ink on the back of the post. The bottom of the post is branded with the mark of the workshop where the piece was carved. Height 3.64 inches.

A rare early Ming dynasty 15th century blue and white large bowl, rounded side with flared rim, straight foot and glazed base, bowl outer wall decorated with fine under glaze blue of fish and anhua weave motif, center also with fish and weave motif.

An antique Japanese Kasane Tansu (stacked Kimono chest on chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Kakute handles and the lock plates featuring the Takanoha Mon (crossed arrow feather family crest). Each section has two sets of side handles, one for carrying with a pole and one for placement in the home. Using thick wood, it was constructed with straight dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails.

19th century miniature Hirado porcelain sculpture of a karako (Chinese boy) lying on his back, the upper part of his body raised up. Could have been used as a brushrest. Excellent crisp modeling with incised details - see his wonderful face, well defined hands and clothing details.
