Chinese late Qing to Republic period camphor wood trunk densely carved with relief lotus flowers. Incised brass circular front lock plate. Circa 1900 to early 20th century. 31" long x 14" wide x 13" high. Very good, solid overall condition. There is a small separation in the wood at one of the front edges and a minor loss at one back corner revealing the tip of a tiny old nail (see closeup images)...

Antique Burmese statue of Buddha carved from alabaster. He is portrayed in a Mandalay style, which emerged at the end of the 18th century, in which he sports a bun at the top of his head, has a fleshier face, and is shown seated in a lotus position performing the Bhumispharsa mudra where he touches the Earth as he reaches enlightenment through meditation. Around his wrist is a seal of export. 19th century

A masterpiece of Akahada Pottery ware in the shape of a wooden bucket with elaborate scrolling feet from the kiln of Okuda Mokuhaku. It is 18 x 18 x 19 cm (7 x 7 x 7-1/2 inches) and is in excellent condition, enclosed in a modern wooden collector’s box.
Okuda Mokuhaku (1800-1871) was born the son of a merchant in Sakai Machi Yamato Koriyama in Nara Prefecture that served the local lords with hair ornaments, make-up supplies and other fashionable items...

This 19th century nephrite carving of a fisherman is 3 ¼” high, 2 ¼” wide and 1 ¾” thick. It depicts an old smiling fisherman. His right hand is holding a mulberry branch; his left hand is holding his beard. His straw hat is hanging on his back. He has two fish tied to the ends of the branch and is attempting to put them into a basket at his feet. It is in great condition.
19th century netsuke of a dog sitting on a woven mat with its front paw on a reticulated ball with a loose ball inside it. Excellent carving with great face and superb depiction of hair and woven mat textures. Beautiful wear and patina. Signed ICHIRA (alternative readings are Itsura or Kazura) in oval reserve on the bottom. Height 1 1/2 inches.

A pair of unusual late 19th Century relief moulded cylindrical shaped hat stands painted with panels depicting gentlemen with attendants in a garden landscape, the borders are decorated with Buddhistic precious objects and flower sprays reserved against a yellow ground. On the base is the four character iron red seal mark of the Guangxu emperor (1875-1908). These are probably Nyonya wares, made for export to the Malaysian "Straits Chinese" community ...

This type of Oribe is called Ao-Oribe (green Oribe) as it prominently features a rich green copper-sulfate glaze. This is applied in generous dripping swaths of color over a white crackle glaze. It is further decorated with designs from nature using deft and quick brushwork in a black glaze...
