An interesting 18th century pewter plate, the border with an engraved motto, Suum cuique, written on a ribbon above an open book resting on a diagonally striped bar. As presented on this plate this is the crest and motto for the Scottish Clan Don. It is a Latin phrase meaning “to everybody his/her own”, historically used in freemasonry and in legal contexts, like serving as motto for the faculty of law at universities...

A pair of Japanese negoro lacquer temple ritual sake offering containers, rich dark red lacquer over a black lacquer with a graceful body and a wishing ball stopper, Gigoshi, with a spiral design. The pair used for Buddhist purification and fulfillment rituals, and show the patina of respectful use.

This is not my area of specialty so I will attempt a best description. The smoking pipe is of Meerschaum, (for the German "sea foam"), actually the mineral sepiolite. Since the 1720's, the mineral, found mostly in Turkey, has been used in the fashioning of ornately carved smoking pipes. The mineral has been described as soft enough to carve yet hard enough to polish. The fad for such smoking implements reached a peak in Victorian times...

This porcelain tea cup and saucer was produced in England by Minton in the mid 19th century. It is marked but the impressions are so light it is undecipherable. The saucer is 5 ¼ inches in diameter and the cup is 2 ½ inches high. The set is made of fine, white bone china. The decoration is completely hand painted. Elegantly simple burnished high fired pottery cup from Warring States to Early Han Dynasty. There is one crack and a couple of chips noted in last enlargements. Pretty much to be expected from an over 2000 year old pottery piece. D:9.9cm/3.9in and H: 7cm/2.7in.

An antique Japanese Funa Tansu (Captain's Chest) made entirely of Kirinoki (Paulownia) wood. All original finish and hand made iron fittings. It was constructed using straight dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails. The base has an original cross beam support that adds strength and durability to this chest. A hidden secret lidded box hides behind the bottom right drawer with retrieval by way of the back of the bottom left drawer.

A hand thrown porcelain vase (originally of Yan Yan or 'phoenix tail' shape) attractively painted in shades of under glaze blue with a prunus blossom pattern against a 'cracked ice' ground.

This item was made in China in the late 17th or early 18th Century during the reign of the Kangxi emperor (1662-1722).
