Rare Chinese Famille Rose Teapot finely decorated with figures in a landscape on a scrolling gilt ground. Unusually both the handle and spout are painted with a delicate floral spray. Qianlong C1750/60. Height 13.7cm. Condition; 1.2cm section to rim filled and restored, frit to knop. Some wear to gilding. Otherwise excellent.

Up for auction sale is an 19th century Han Chinese woman's surcoat, black silk ground with intricate embroideries on collar, sleeve bands and trims; 5 gilt ball-and-loop toggle buttons. This large Japanese late Meiji (1867~1911) ivory carving is 14 ¼” high, 4” wide and 2 ¾” in depth. It depicts a smiling sage carrying a fan in his left hand and holding a long staff in his right hand. A rolled up scroll is tied to the top of the staff. Aside from a few hair line cracks due to age and size, it is in good condition. More detailed photos are available.

Originally used as a traditional folding fan, its creases are clearly visible as is also the wear and paper losses, particularly along the edges. The painting was removed from its bamboo supports many years ago and mounted on a scroll or screen. The mounting can be seen on the back and is also visible as a thin border along the front edges, and remnants of a mulberry paper backing are lightly attached to the back on top of the old scroll mounting paper...
