Description: An oval shaped brush washer made of stone was originated from Tang or Liao Dynasty.
In chrysanthemum decoration around the rim, the basin was kept with original whitish patina and some incursions within the tissues of the stone.
Some defects can be found.

A set of five, sometsuke tusurugata kozara, blue and white Crane shaped small dishes dating to the late seventeenth century. An identical set of dishes is illustrated in volume II of the Shibata Collection at page 272 no 714, there dated c.1680-1710. Their condition is good all the dishes show crazing to the glaze, two have a minute chip each to the edge. Similar shaped dishes have been excavated from the Sarukawa kiln at Arita...

Rare Chinese Neolithic Pottery Tripod - Qijia Culture

This rare pottery tripod ("li") was made some 4,000 years ago. Although similar vessels were made by various Chinese Neolithic cultures, we believe this particular example to have been made by potters of the Qijia Culture (c. 2050 - 1700 BC). The form is of a cooking vessel and the three wide udder-shaped legs allow it to be stood in a fire with as much heat as possible being transmitted to the contents inside the vessel...

A beautiful, hand-painted, seven-piece water glass set, made most probably by the Bohemian glass-maker, Carl Hosch, a contemporary of Moser. The set is decorated with typical art nouveau floral motif. The set is in very good condition (there is one nick on one glass and a couple of pin-pricks on another). Polished pontil. The jug is 12 inches (30,5 cm) tall with a base width of 5 1/2 inches (14 cm). Each glass is 8 inches (20,3 cm) tall and has a top-diameter of 2 1/4 inches (5,7 cm).

Relics of the Nile is pleased to present this quality bronze surgical instrument. The instrument was used as a probe and one end is grooved, which may have been used to hold sutures. There is a nice banded groove design toward the end and the bronze instrument has a lovely ancient olive patina. The instrument itself measures 6 5/8" in length. This comes beautify and professionally framed with a description plaque on the front. The frame size measures 11.25" x 9.25". Roman, Ca. 100 A.D.

An Arita porcelain small bowl with barbed lotus style lobed rim, a namasu, typically used in Japanese cuisine to serve various pickles. Potted in mid 17C transitional Chinese style without a foot-rim as such, but an unglazed ring, kodai. The interior of the bowl painted in ko-sometsuke style. Antique Chinese hardwood altar table with hand carved lingzhi spiral apron joined in upturned flanges. The feet are spanned by an openwork of hand carved panels with drapery motifs. Original warm finish. Very sturdy, condition consistent with age.

An exceptionally nice English porcelain cup and saucer decorated with pink luster. The body is molded in a net pattern with reserves that are highlighted in overglaze blue, green, yellow and iron red enamels. The center of the saucer is decorated with a strawberry motif that is repeated in the bottom of the cup. The cup is raised on a slight foot. The saucer has very deep and steeply sloped sides so the hot tea could be drunk directly from the saucer, as was the custom.

Wooden animal sarcophagus, perhaps intended for a serpent, fashioned as a shrine with nice cavetto cornices on top and a vertical sliding door in front.
Carved from a single piece of cedar with interior grooves to fit the front panel.
These kinds of shrines could house mortuary statues, mummified remains of animals or symbols associated with a particular deity.

This antique tea caddy still has some tea in it, but the tea is so old it cannot be identified by smell. I would not try using it. The bamboo veneer is carved on each of the 6 sides, some scenes and some calligraphy. The calligraphy is old Chinese so translation is...not easily possible.

An antique Japanese bamboo Ikebana basket in a stylized Baluster form with bi-color bamboo intertwined with mature bamboo featuring dark nodules in a diagonal cross-hatch pattern. Each square of the pattern measures 1 3/8" and they are not tightly woven though they are in scale with the size of the basket. The handles were created using twisted stalks that were integrated free-form into the basket. Open mouth with twisted rope lip.

Victorian Classical sterling silver loving cup, ca 1890. Baluster bowl with flared rim and raised foot. High-looping capped double-scroll handles. Exuberant embossed and cast ornament with scrolling leaves and scallop shells contained by fluted frames. Fully marked including maker’s (Frank W. Smith) and retailer’s (Theodore B. Starr) stamps, no. 1334B, and volume (6 1/2 pts). Very good condition with deep patina.

Antique Japanese Bizen ware ceramic sculpture of a pair of puppies. Each beautifully sculpted with charming features. Bizen ware pottery is made of the reddish brown clay with high iron content that is found in the area around the village of Imbe in Bizen province. Fine signature on base.

A marked, very fragile, well potted bowl and since this piece fortunately does not comes from the sea resp. from a ship wreck the condition of the glaze and therefore also the Cobalt blue of this piece is very nice. Ming Dynasty Jiajing period ( 1522 - 1566 ) Jingdezhen ware. Diameter : 10,2 cm. H : 5,3 cm. Condition : Very good with a wonderful bell like sound when tapped. Some very minute glaze fritting to the rim.

19th century wooden netsuke depicting standing Hotei (one of the 7 Gods of Good Luck, also considered to be the incarnation of Maitreya - the Buddha of the future) with a peach in one hand, and the other hand resting on his voluminous belly. A sublime square japanese export table decorated with scrolling clouds, flora, and rising dragons. The intricate and detailed carvings were popular during the Meiji period when most of Japan's fine arts and crafts were being exported to the West. A large and very impressive Bronze model of a male lion cast in naturalistic style as is common for Japanese export bronzes from this period. Glass eyes. Marked with a seal: Kyomitsu zo: made by Kyomitsu. Meiji, late 19th cent. ca. 1890. L 56 cm, H 30 cm. Condition: Excellent.

A very rare and early example with its original polychrome and clear traces of long time use. Note the glossy patina on the back of the mask. This is Noshime used in a district for the Meiji period. This is woven with silk and cotton. The line of the part of the waist is drawn on this freely by hand. This has several places of changes of color of the aging, but does not stand out. This does not have damage. This is Kyougen clothes used in a local side. In the present age, this is not seen very much. Size 130cm x 131cm (51.1 "x 51.5")

Antique Japanese Karatsu ware chawan (tea bowl) with crackle glaze and kintsugi. Beautifully crafted with a small flattened area for the hand to grasp and a magical elegance to the touch. Evaluation done in the 1930's by TZ Shiota when the family was inheriting the collection from their great grandfather, Federic Torrey. The collection was stored in a trunk since his death in 1935.

An antique Japanese Kotansu (personal storage chest) made entirely of Kirinoki (Paulownia) wood. Original bronze hardware. Two sliding doors open to a storage space with one shelf. Five drawers provide additional storage and organizing areas. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails. It would make a perfect nightstand or side chest for any room decor.
