Up for sale is a red silk Chinese dragon robe embroidered with ten 5-claw dragons chasing flaming pearl, clouds, sea waves, cranes and bats, and other Buddhist auspicious objects executed in forbidden stitch, long & wide sleeves; backed with red silk lining; excellent condition, bright red silk ground - Some orange color from pictures is actually the effect of flash light.

A medium sized Hopi Kachina doll carved by Wilson Tewaquaptewa circa 1930. Tewaquaptewa (1871-1960) was the last chief of Old Oraibi. He produced Kachina dolls which are a combination of many dolls and figments of his own imagination. He believed that you didn't carve actual Kachinas for the tourist market. His dolls are usually monochromatic in color (brown, ochre and white and black). His use of symbols, painted on the case mask, seems to be arbitrary. DIMENSIONS: 7" tall.

Description of Tatangaya from Colton: "Two types...At Second and Third Mesas he wears a green case mask with datura flower ears. Stripes of all colors surround the face. Cloth ruff, breech clout, and green moccasins. Yellow and red body paint. The Hornet Kachina appears in groups or singly in Mixed Kachina Dance, and the Pamuya. He is said to be of Zuni origin." A small hardwood carving of lotus leaves with small frogs and fish set between the curled and the underside sections of the leaves. Sourced from an old estate, this pair of lotus shoes came with a hand written tag/label sewn to the back of one heel and a red paper the shape of the inner sole place inside on of the shoes. The paper is at the point flaking and disintegrating and the writing is in old Chinese and no longer readable. Because of the "tag and label, I suspect that these shoes were presented as a "gift" to a Western missionary, teacher or friend...

This incense burner is cast bronze in a bombe form, having a brownish patina with small patches of verdigris. The base is caste with a six-character Xuande mark (though not of the period). The interior shows evidence of long use and has some areas of verdigris. It is set on a flaring footring which echoes its rather thick flaring lip. There is evidence of wear and use and some tiny nicks to one handle. It is in generally good condition. Purchased in London in 1978...

Beautiful Japanese antique small tansu with locking bar (bo), 3 drawers behind locking bar, locking bar has key and elaborate hardware with kiri mon, bottom drawer has large metal raised lock plate with crane, safe box in lower right hand corner with more metal hardware, two small interior safe drawers, front of keyaki (elm) wood, original finish, Meiji Period. Size: 24 3/4" high x 23 1/4" wide x 13" deep.

This early 20th century ivory carving of a maiden is 15 7/8” high (17 ½” with base), 3 ½” wide and 2 7/8” thick. She wears a simple and elegant robe and holds a bouquet of flowers in front of her. The carving is superb and has nice patina. The wood base is a later made piece. Aside from some small hair line cracks due to its age, the statue is in great condition. This vase is covered overall in brushed slip (hakeme) with three registers of incised horizontal lines from which issue simple flame-like patterns. The brushed slip decoration extends into the flaring mouth and down to the footring. The foot is completely obscured by adhering fused sand from the firing. There are a couple of unintended copper red dots from the glaze. The condition is very good, having no chips cracks or repairs.

Up for sale is a very rare antique Chinese silk brocade panel with a large phoenix roundel in the middle, 11.5" diameter, together with other smaller patterns related to buddhism; Qing dynasty, or could be earlier, very intricate piece of art work with fine gold threads; backed with light yellow-ish silk lining. Overall the panel is in excellent condition, folding line in the middle, one water mark in the roundel which I believe can can be cleaned up. Measurements: Approx 44.5" x 28.5".

Pair of rare hanging apsaras, also known in Japanese as Kuyo Bosatsu or Hiten. The style of the face, the soft appearance of the hands, and the flowing robes are fine examples of the highest quality in Edo Period Buddhist sculpture. One apsara may have been holding an object to offer the Buddhas, while the other is carrying drumsticks and appears to be hitting the drum the apsara is carrying. The pair may have been part of a set long ago, but even so, it is rare to see this set. Age: Edo Period ...

This semi-translucent stone is carved in high relief on the bottom in the form of a lotus leaf with pods and buds and stems. It is jade-green in areas and almost clear in others and it shows the numerous flaws running through the stone typical of so-called green quartz (actually fluorite). There are numerous chips and losses around the rim edges. It is accompanied by a fitted carved hardwood stand that has losses to two of its feet.
