This is one of a group of moulded pottery tablets that we bought about twenty years ago. They are made from a relatively high-fired pottery and have a surprising amount of detail. They were made as amulets and votive offerings and were reported to have been excavated from the foundations of an ancient Buddhist temple, where originally many would have been placed to ensure the success of the temple...

A scholar wristrest was intriguingly made from a piece natural burlwood.

Obtained from the bark of the alleged agalloch-the precious incense wood and followed the original shape, the wristrest was curved in the center to leave the space for the spreading scroll underneath.
It was what a wristrest used for.

A small (under 2 inches diameter) antique Chinese blue and white porcelain covered cosmetic or seal paste box. Rabbit decoration in cobalt on white slip centered on the cover. An otherwise translucent glaze with faint celadon pooling over the top and bottom with ribbed sides suggesting petals of a lotus blossom. Probably late Ming or transitional. Of oval shape with lovely feet in the shape of leaves (lotus ?). The inside richly decorated with panels with trmple gardens, flowers and butterflies. Description: A blue and white plate was painted with vibrant dragon amid swirling cloud. As a piece from early Qing period-the Yongzheng reign, the plate was well preserved with only minor frets on the glaze of the surface. A brush pen written inscription /Jianzenghao/ was on the un-glazed body at the bottom of the plate. Date: Yongzheng period,17th century. Width: 23.6cm

Fine Large Chinese Qianlong Blue & White Porcelain Dish / Charger

This dish was made in the 18th century, during the Qianlong reign (1735 - 1796) of the Qing Dynasty. The underglaze blue decoration features a delicately drawn garden scene featuring bamboo, blossoms and a bird in flight. An elaborate floral pattern surrounds the border. Iron-brown has been painted around the rim edge to prevent fritting of the glaze.
