One of the better known "less celebrated" maestros of Mexico's 20th c. Silver Renaissance, AEM (or, as I like to refer to him, AE Heart because of the heart-shaped M that hugs the signature's other two initials) lived and worked in Mexico City. Of good weight and exhibiting very good craftsmanship, AEM's jewelry often emulate pieces by his more famous contemporaries but he created many original designs himself as well...

Impressive in size this vintage Janna Thomas Mexican silver pendant is an example of the "pluma Azteca" technique which incorporates vividly colored bird feathers in sterling jewelry. Very reminiscent of plique-a-jour work, "pluma Azteca" was introduced by the Los Castillo workshop and it is a demanding, difficult process so it was emulated by just a handful of other Taxco maestros. Unusual ring featuring textured sterling silver holding a large Rhodonite sphere. The natural stone is pink with dramatic black veining. The design has a trippy organic feel. This extremely exciting and entertaining piece is circa 1970s. It is slightly convex. The back is marked with the eagle number 20, STERLING. Early sterling bolo with Mayan design on a brown leather braided thong with the fabulous cactus-design ends, Mexico, c.1942.
