Impressive in size this vintage Janna Thomas Mexican silver pendant is an example of the "pluma Azteca" technique which incorporates vividly colored bird feathers in sterling jewelry. Very reminiscent of plique-a-jour work, "pluma Azteca" was introduced by the Los Castillo workshop and it is a demanding, difficult process so it was emulated by just a handful of other Taxco maestros. Being offered is a circa 1963 sterling silver necklace by Los Ballesteros of Taxco, Mexico, boasting a modern biomorphic design. Dimensions wearable 15 1/2”, 1 3/4" at its widest. Marked. Matl Matilde Poulat opened her shop in 1931.(Pack Davis) She with her nephew Salas produced folk art jewels that are sought after today. This signed example is studded with turquoise and clear, faceted amethyst squares. The silver work shows itself as an excellent example that is 7 in. long and 1.75in. tall. The weight is heavy at 63 grams as a bracelet with open air filigree. Collectors will not be disappointing with this bracelet.

A sterling silver modernist brooch by Phyllis Sklar, American Mid Century jeweler. This brooch has a thick sterling wire overlay with an oval moonstone cabochon on a darkened, oxidized surface. These teardrop-shaped earrings feature purple, grey, violet and black feathers enclosed between pieces of resin or a clear composite. An Arts and Crafts hammered sterling silver ring with a blue bezel set cabochon by the Art Silver Shop of Chicago. Stone measures 3/4" long and 1/2" across. Measures about a size 3 1/2 so currently would probably be worn as a pinky ring. Marked on the back with Hand Made, conjoined TASS and Sterling. Mark is behind the part of the ring where the stone is so it could resized without disturbing it. You can see the light hammering. Beautifully made. Great example.

Taxco 980 signed pieces are always quality. This link is 118 grams heavy and is the closest thing to the Coco design of the Spratling original necklace which is so very, very rare. The Taxco 980 necklace is 20in. long and has a depth of 7/16th's giving it even more dimension. No dents or damage and kept lovingly through time. One of my favorite things, just LOOK AT THAT NECKLACE!

This is a wonderful prayer book, sterling silver bracelet charm. The front of the book has a cross. The charm opens to reveal The Lord's Prayer. When closed, the charm measures just under 1/2" x just over 1/2". When open, the charm measures just over 3/4" long. The inside is marked STERLING JMF CO.

Dramatic large hand made sterling Mayan face/headdress pin by LOS CASTILLO, Mexico, 1942. Measures 3 1/4" by 2 1/4" and signed "LOS CASTILLO TAXCO STERLING MADE IN MEXICO 530". This pin has a barette-type of closure. However, the points are very sharp so is not a barette but rather an alternate type of pin closure.
