An oil on canvas painting promoting a South Asian or Indian movie, titled "Sangeeta". The work measures 35 1/2" by 25 1/4" in a simple black frame. It is a bit loose on the stretcher but otherwise is in good condition. Major star's name is Nigar Shyam, and there is writing in Arabic which I would imagine place this in the northern or western part of the country.

A beautifully painted unframed work by an anonymous talented hand, late 20th century or later, on canvas, 26 1/2" by 22 1/2", featuring an old-country view of house and courtyard in a valley setting. The flickering, spontaneous impressionist brushwork is impressive. Sadly, the artist did not sign the piece. Excellent condition, needing only a frame.

Oil on canvas laid against wood panel painting of a young woman in traditional type clothing of Southeast Asia, likely the Philippines or Indonesia. The sizable work measures 37" by 24" (43 1/2" by 30 1/2" in wood frame). At lower right, in red, there does appear to be a signature but I am not certain as to how it reads; possibly "HA.....". The canvas is a little buckled especially at left, as it is laid against the panel and not firmly glued to it...

Oil on canvas laid on panel painting of a tropical river with adjacent structures, royal poinciana tree (sometimes known as flame tree or flamboyant), banana trees, and a wood raft in the middle of the river. The piece is signed at lower left. It measures 10" by 14" and 14" by 17 1/2" framed. The scene could be in Asia (Philippines, or Indonesian?), or Latin America, perhaps Brazilian---difficult to determine, but I lean towards Latin America, the signature not appearing Asian...

Oil on canvas, 27 1/2" by 22 1/2" (36" by 30" as framed), the subject a young man wearing a colorful bandana, intently working on some objects in his hands, a traditional ethnic mask in the upper right background. The painting is signed in red at lower right "S. C. YUAN", (1911-1974), who was an important Chinese-American artist from the Monterey, California area, however, this is definitely NOT a work of that well-known artist (I showed images to several auction houses and a gallery or two)...

This is a large work of art in delicate condition, 26" by 54" and 3" wide frame, so, I am seeking a local (Southern California) buyer who can pick it up. The painting, of a tropical coast with palms, decorative boats, and numerous figures, is well painted in an impressionistic manner, and is signed "M. H. Liu" at lower right in red and dated there 1967. A search of this name has not produced any listings...

Oil on canvas, unframed, 15 3/4" by 11 3/4", unsigned, the subject a colorful Indonesian or Chinese traditional dancer in elaborate costume, complete with extra long fingernails and fierce-looking mask. The work was likely executed in the past twenty years or so. A Chinese ad for cigarettes is used as backing paper (a tear in that). This is a most decorative piece that took a long time to create.

From a local estate, the homeowners having spent much time in Southeast Asia, an oil on panel unframed and unsigned painting of a younger man wearing some traditional simple clothing. The piece measures 26 3/4" by 23 3/4" and dates to the late 20th century. It is competently painted, the figure tightly outlined, the colors muted gray and tan and white, his waistband area providing a spare touch of bright color.

A contemporary Thai or otherwise Southeast Asian painting of traditional thatched houses by the water, palms, banana trees, water buffalo and blooming lilies completing the scene. Oil on canvas 13 1/2" by 20", 17" by 23" in attractive, complementary, grayish, distressed-look wood framing. Condition is excellent. The work is signed at lower left with what appears as "Song Suk".

Oil on canvas, 16" by 20", unframed, signed at lower right in red "SOON" and with artist's device, signed there "86", the subject a thatched roof village fronting low mountains, clothes hanging to dry in the breeze. This appear to be most likely Korean art, perhaps by a Korean-American, considering the American size stretcher. The name is common in Korea but I don't believe the artist is well known. The work is highly impressionistic and with a frame this will look even better...

Small decorative oil on canvas of a scene in Thailand with small boats, a figure paddling one of them, two ducks, and a house on a shore, 6" by 9" (9 1/2" by 12 1/4"), signed at lower right "Sak" or "Yak". Probably tourist art, this is nicely framed and the mat is clean, making for a decorative and inexpensive Asian accent for the home.

An antique Japanese two panel screen painting (byobu) of the battle between the two historical figures Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Benkei.
Minamoto no Yoshitsune (born Ushiwakamaru c.1159) was raised in a monastery near in Kyoto. His incredible skill as a warrior emerged when he was very young. In the scene depicted here, he famously defeats the great warrior-monk, Benkei (Saito Musashibo Benkei). The young Ushiwakamaru easily leaps over the larger warrior...
