An ink on paper drawing in striking Surrealism style, signed with initials RM at lower left within the imagery by the noted Mexican muralist, painter and illustrator ROBERTO MONTENEGRO (1887-1968). The subject is a Dali style clock face, a skeletal hand pointing, and other strange almost biomorphic shapes completing the imagery. Written in pencil underneath the mat is "Hora Unica" (which I take to mean 1 o'clock, the bony index finger on that numeral on the clock face)...
An unusual offering: a print of some type, appearing as lithograph but not, perhaps a Heliogravure or similar, with HAND COLORING IN PASTEL, the oval-shaped card on which this is created measuring 20" by 16", the entire wood apparently original early oval frame measuring 26 1/2" by 23 1/2". A circa 1920's to 1940's old reprint of the much-loved classic Currier and Ives lithograph "American Winter Scenes", with a horse-drawn sleigh heading towards the snug home at right in which a party appears to be held. The piece measures 23 1/2" by 30 1/2" in what I believe is a birdseye maple frame. Condition is very good, vintage condition. The original 19th century lithograph is very expensive; this reasonable alternative will provide the same decorative punch.
The dramatic Poem 70-37 is the kanji for Self已. It measures 17.5in W x 24in H and is in very good condition.(There is slight toning in the margins.)
A portrait miniature of a young and handsome man unabashedly directly facing the viewer. He is dressed in the height of fashion, wearing a black jacket, light orange cravat (which nicely matches his hair), and a white vest. Presented in a gilt cast foliate case, the reverse of which features a glazed tightly woven field of plaited hair.
Because of the convex glass, the photos unfortunately show reflections, white streaks, dots, and shadows, none of which are in the miniature...
A lovely impressionist painting, oil or oil gouache mix perhaps, 24" by 36" (34" by 45 1/2" framed), unsigned, the subject a young girl with the background evidently a scene in Mediterranean South of France, the Riviera. The whitewashed, luminous look overall reminds of works by noted artists Andre Gisson, Emilio Grau Sala, Charles Cobelle and the Dufy brothers (Jean and Raoul), as well as other artists of the so-called School of Paris. Condition is excellent. Frame has very slight chipping...
