Oil on canvas, 20" by 27" and simple wood frame 1 1/4" wide on a side, the subject a ceramic vase with exotic bird motif, on a tabletop, the vase and surrounding area filled with various flowers including carnations, hydrangeas, roses of various colors, and perhaps goldenrod. The work is signed at lower right "G Cocco" (GIUSEPPE COCCO 1879-1963), a listed painter from Naples, Italy. Cocco's signature is hard to decipher and as a result I think he is less known than he should be...
A fine oil on canvas painting, the subject a water powered mill by a peaceful stream in the autumnal French countryside, signed at lower left by the noted painter and graphic artist PAUL EMILE LECOMTE (1877-1950). The work (26" by 20", and " by " as framed) exhibits the highly developed classic impressionist technique for which the artist is noted. Lecomte was a student of his father, Paul Lecomte Sr. (1842-1920). He studied at the Beaux-Arts in Paris...
A landscape painting with feathery trees silhouetted against a luminous sky, a female figure walking at right with brown cow on the path which borders a creek, signed illegibly at lower right and dated there 1852. Someone invested some money in preserving the work, as it has been relined in recent times. The original stretcher was retained. The work is now stable. It is not perfectly flat however, there being some roll to the canvas especially at bottom...
Oil on Canvas, English School. "The Hull to London Post". After Charles Cooper Henderson (1803-1877). Dimensions; 24" x 16", 27.5" x 19.5" framed. Late 19th/early 20rg Century. Condition; crackling and professional restoration done. Reframed.
An oil on canvas laid on Masonite painting of a young brunette woman, the view from the breasts up, against a neutral dark background, signed in red illegibly at top left corner. The piece measures 17 1/2" by 12 3/4" (24 1/2" by 19 1/2" framed). More than likely the artist is French, judging from the overall style, signature, and the stenciled numbers "1208" on the frame. The artist is probably listed, but my efforts to decipher this signature have been unsuccessful...

Oil on canvas, 22" by 18 1/2", unframed, the subject a vase of colorful flowers painted in a highly impressionistic manner. The painting is signed at lower right center with the notoriously difficult to decipher signature of the artist HENRI d'ANTY (1910-1998). The age would appear to be circa late 1950's or early 1960's. D'Anty was born in France and painted scenes in Brittany, northern France, and along the banks of the Marne River...
The image on the right is an enlarged study of the vest worn by the Mother in the Van Dyck portrait. The Portrait of a Woman and Child was painted in 1620-21 by Van Dyck. The unusual design on the vest matches that of Rubens. The embroidery design symbol means family love. Again, I believe this represents a Flemish Honeysuckle which appears in over 17 Flemish Old Master Paintings. A new lab report confirms the gold color is real "GOLD" on canvas!!

PAIR of oil on gray art board panels, each 14" by 4 3/4", 20" by 10 1/2" as framed, unsigned, the subject of each a picturesque old castle perched on a prominent mountain outcrop, in each view, a bridge with tiny figures crossing a torrent in the foreground. These could be a "before and after" scene of the same view, as one bridge is of stone and obviously more substantial than the other, which is of wood...
This is a very large portrait of a dark headed lady in her finest clothes. It appears to be mid 1700's and more info to be added later.
A Very Good Still Life with Flowers Set Within a Marble Plinth, English School, 19th Century. Image size approximately 30 inches x 25 inches.
This is a beautifully painted work, oil on canvas, measuring 24" by 16" (images show as framed, but frame is now unaccounted for), signed at lower right by noted 20th century Hungarian artist Antal Janczak (1907-1985, also spelled as Janczek). The artist's works sell regularly at auction in Europe. This one probably dates to the 1960's or 1970's. Condition is good, with no flaking or holes/patches, though when viewed at an angle one can see some rumpling of the canvas, one looking almost like...
Oil on canvas, " by " (" by " framed), the subject a peaceful glen deep in a forest, painted in a luminous style reminiscent of the American Hudson River School, likely Fairy Glen in North Wales, signed at lower right by the noted well listed English artist WILLIAM MELLOR (1851-1931). Today his peaceful classic paintings of sensitively r...

The work is most certainly by a listed artist. The painting has a dry surface and perhaps some chemical oxidation of the paint, giving a blanched look in a number of parts of the horse's body, including rear spine/rump, tail, chest and legs; please view photos carefully. The board is s...
Frantesek Kupka, 1871-1957, Opocno. Bohemia, Czech, and died in France. This stunning early mordernist painting is an early and an
extremely fine example of Kupka's painting. It is approximately 17"H by 13"w in a 4" frame. It is signed clearly lower right and the entire painting and signature under black light looks good with no in painting. Kupka attended the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Prague at 17 years old and the Beaux Arts in Vienna. He moved to Paris in 1895 and also won the Prix de Rome. He...

Gaston Sebire was born in Saint-Samson, Normandy, France, August 18, 1920. He attended School in Rouen, then entered the postal service, working at night and devoting himself to painting during the day. His first big break came in 1953, when he won the honorable job of designing the costumes and decorations of L'Ange gris, a ballet written by Claude Debussy for the Marquis of Cuevas. Moving to Normandy soon after, he buried...

Oil on canvas laid on board painting of a traditionally-dressed woman, facing away from the viewer, balancing a water jug on her head while walking in a rural setting. The work measures 13" by 10" framed and there is no apparent signature. I opened the backing and see that the canvas has been laid directly on a board. The painting might date to approximately the 1860's; similarly dressed figures are seen in mid nineteenth century paintings of the Roman campagna. One wonders if perhaps this l...
“Village at Dusk”
Oil on canvas 29 ¼” x 24” unframed / 41” x 36” framed
Larolle was born in Paris, Oct 3rd, 1848 and died in Paris, April 22, 1929. He was not only a highly regarded painter of his time but also an avid collector, academician and musician. He was initially a pupil of Louis Lamothe in 1864 but never went to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Independent in outlook and financially well-off, he began working in the Louvre, where he met Albert Besnard and Jean-Louis Forain, and...
Oil on canvas painting with great luminosity, the subject small craft pulled up on foreground beach, with a view to distant ships offshore a city, signed at lower left corner and dated 1876 by well listed Danish painter NORDAHL GROVE (1822-1885). The work measures 17 1/2" by 26" (23 1/2" by 32" framed). The luminous handling and colors reminds of works by northeastern American artists of the late 19th century. Grove, the son of a distinguished Danish naval officer, studied at the Royal Danish...

A fine portrait of a lovely young girl, oil on canvas, 14" by 10 1/2", unframed, signed at upper left by listed French artist MAURICE JACQUET (1877-). Jacquet seems to have painted mainly portraits of young women, but a few landscapes are known. This work has just been cleaned and relined, as when found it had a very dry blanched unstable surface, and some loss areas. Before lining, the restorer took photos of the canvas stencil on the reverse, which was of the house of Blanchet, 38 Rue Bonap...
Oil on canvas of a square in Paris, larger size at 31 1/2" by 31 1/2", unframed, signed at lower right corner with what appears as "R. Ode". The painting likely dates to about 1960, judging from the clothing of the people in the image. I do not see a listing by this name but am continuing to research. Condition: the painting will need restoration. The canvas has separated from the stretcher, so the stretcher will need to be replaced, or the canvas will have to be re-attached to the present ...
An old oil on wood panel painting of a peaceful stream running through a wooded area, unsigned, 9 1/4" by 13", unframed. The work is obviously by a talented hand, probably a listed artist had he/she signed it. The oval artist's materials stamp on reverse of panel and the work itself suggests a date of circa 1900, maybe 1910. The oil needs some attention from a restorer to fully expose its original beauty. There is moderate soiling, inconsistent varnish, some light abrasions, maybe a little o...
A detailed oil on canvas scene titled on reverse label "Venice at the Canale Grande", unframed, 15" by 30", signed at lower left by turn of the century Italian artist ENRICO FOSSATI. The painting shows a less famous view of the canal and adjacent houses and people going about their business. There are at least thirteen figures in scene, some tiny; a pigeon or two and a few tiny chickens; a bridge; about ten boats of various sizes; clothes hanging out to dry; charming architectural details. Fo...
A contemporary painting featuring the streets of Paris' famous Montmartre, the dome of white Sacre Coeur cathedral towering over narrow streets filled with pedestrians. The work measures 10 1/2" by 8 1/2" (12 3/4" by 10 1/2" as framed in black). The work is signed at lower right "Georges" and on reverse is written "Georges---Paris---2010/Montmartre". Condition of painting is excellent but lower left corner of frame shows some damage and there is scuffing elsewhere. Paint it black or reframe.

An impressionist painting of the famous obelisk and fountain in the center of Paris at the iconic Place de la Concorde, 24" by 29" (and the very nice period frame 31" by 36"). Curiously, the work is unsigned but the artist was obviously talented. Paint is thickly applied in places, thinly in others (artist used bare canvas in places to show clouds). The date of execution would be circa mid 1950's to about 1960, judging from the old-style vehicle at right center; this is a classic scene paint...
