Rocco is a member of the highly prestigious American Watercolor Society
A watercolor painting of a fountain on an elegant seaside or lakeside property, 8 1/2" by 6" (12 1/4" by 9 3/4" framed), signed at lower right by listed Swiss artist JOSEPHINE VERNAY (1861-?). Vernay's birth/death dates are suspect, or possibly confused with those of her brother, artist Francois Joseph Vernay; one source lists hers as 1864-1950, the same as her brother's. My brief net research has failed to turn up a painting dated after 1918...
Antique, circa 1910 unsigned watercolor on paper painting of a red-headed young woman with elaborate hat, carrying roses, 12" by 9 3/4" in modern-day but attractive and complementary gold framing. There are old condition issues (cracks in the board) at top portion in the hat, and hair, extending to the top edge. These were amateurishly taped on the back side...

A contemporary watercolor painting of a flowering shrub, unsigned, 12" by 18" (20" by 26" in attractive gold frame in good condition), possibly of east coast origin as the framer's sticker is from Boston. This reminds somewhat of mountain laurel, the state flower of Connecticut, but that is pure speculation (mountain laurel is usually more white though there are pink and dark pink varieties). In any event, botanical questions aside, this watercolor is nicely executed and in excellent condition...

Watercolor on paper, 16 1/4" by 16 1/4" inside the mat (and 27 1/4" by 27 1/4" as framed), signed at lower right by listed, noted Southern California watercolor artist DON FAY. This is a colorful, beautifully executed work, which previously sold for $2000 at a John Moran auction (THIS EXACT PIECE DID). Condition is excellent with vibrant colors and no foxing/fading. The frame is functional and all in all the piece is ready for the wall...
Unusual watercolor of what appears to be a wagon on the plains, piled high with rocks perhaps, and, even, the skull of a buffalo, signed at lower right "P. PARSONS '96". The watercolor is on paper and measures 8 1/2" by 18 3/4" (15 1/4" by 25 1/4" as framed). The work is in excellent condition with no foxing visible. I do not see an obvious listing for the artist. Found in San Diego area. Recently, on the east coast, I saw a watercolor coastal scene signed in the same manner.
Watercolor on paper of a large ship at the dock, 13 1/2" by 17 1/4" (21" by 26" framed), signed in the image at lower left and also on the mat at lower right "Herbert Manasse", and titled "ENSENADA 'L.'C.I." on the mat at lower left. The artist is HERBERT MANASSE (1891-1965), who according to the AskArt listing was an artistically talented attorney. He was obviously quite familiar with the medium. Note the wet-on-wet technique in the sky...
A large watercolor on heavy watercolor paper, 22 1/2" by 32 1/2", unframed, the subject a classic landscape of northern New Mexico, with adobes and distant mountains prominent. A peaceful scene of a quiet creek winding next to a forest, signed at lower right Emily M. Cornwall. An early century blue Philadelphia framer's label has been retained and affixed to the present backing. The 10" by 15 1/4" watercolor (18" by 23" framed) is offered in AS-IS condition. Somehow, over the years, the sky area in the left portion was severely damaged, with complete paper loss in areas especially at far left portion. The right half of the work is in good condition. A prospective ...
Watercolor on paper painting, each 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" (17 1/2" by 14 1/2" in shiny black inexpensive frame), signed in pencil at lower right by the California artist and fashion illustrator ESTHER WYNN, who passed away in 1990 according to recent information acquired from relatives. So far there is no askart listing for this artist but I imagine that will change. She was a talented illustrator, often, of vintage fashion design, and created designs for cards as well. A web search reveals other wate...
A vintage watercolor by an unknown amateur artist, titled at bottom "Santa Barbara Mission", unframed, measuring 14 1/2" by 11 3/4". The work on old paper would appear to date to maybe the 1930's or early 1940's at latest---think the "Route 66" era of travel in the American West (though this site is not on or near Route 66). It was likely created by or for a tourist. Note the Native Americans at center in the reflecting pool or fountain. A classic piece of vintage Californiana that just need...
Brooks Pettus (1918-2003) was a noted western American artist who passed away in Kennewick, Washington, leaving behind a large body of work in watercolor and oil that only recently appeared on the market. Pettus earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico, and spent time in Albuquerque and Taos in the early 1940's. New Mexico's artistically inspiring landscape stimulated Pettus' aesthetic sense as it has for countless others. Even though he became a professional engineer, mo...
A group of three small watercolors of scenes in rural Hambleden, England, by late 20th century English artist (Mrs.) P. Begley. The three each measure 5 1/2" by 8" (10 1/2" by 12 1/2" identically framed). Each is signed with conjoined initials PB in lower left corner and the artist wrote her address and titles on reverse backing. The works probably date to circa 1980. Pleasing scenes of the classic, peaceful countryside of England. Hambleden is near the Thames, immediately west of Greater Lo...
**THREE** identically framed watercolor paintings of classic Greek scenes, each signed at lower left by well listed Greek artist KONSTANTINOS SOFIANOPOULOS (1910-1990). The subjects are small boats or fishing boats, with scenery beyond, including a cliffside temple, in one. As framed, they measure 21 1/2" by 17 1/2" each. The watercolors themselves measure 10 1/2" by 15". Signature is in Greek, and dates appear to be in the 1970's (last digit difficult to decipher in some). Sofianopoulos was...
Eighteenth Century Floral Study Watercolor 12”x7” on fine French paper
Framed and matted under glass, a vibrant watercolor featuring workers in the rice fields. Indistinct signature (Jalin 49 or Jalimus ?). Not examined out of frame. The frame measures 16" x 19-1/2".
A pretty scene of rapids and a wild river running through a wide gorge, trees bordering, signed at lower left with initials that appear to be MKB and dated there 1934. The watercolor on paper work measures 14 1/2" by 11 1/2" (25 1/2" by 21 1/2" in interesting frame, with drawn lines mat). The landscape could be Canadian as well but without more information on the artist it is difficult to determine authorship. Found in the mountain states of the west. Condition is outstanding, considering th...

PAIR of watercolors, the larger of raspberries on the vine, painted with amazing attention to detail and realism, measuring 10 3/4" by 8" inside the mat; the smaller painting of three bright red cherries and a leaf, measuring 6" by 9" inside the mat, BOTH SIGNED AT LOWER RIGHT with initials "M. C. R.". Since acquiring these works together at a shop in California's Gold Country a few years back, I have attempted to figure out who might have created them. A logical choice would be American still...
Watercolor with touches of gouache painting, on heavy grade watercolor paper, the subject a small ranch on a coastline, 18" by 29" (26" by 39" framed), unsigned, the subject I feel possibly in Hawaii or Australia, given the scenery and the obvious tropical touch (the plantation-shutters and banana trees, and the detail of the front of the structure). Unfortunately I have not been able to locate a signature anywhere. The frame is simple wood, (not pictured) but possibly available, at no extra c...
A very well rendered watercolor painting on paper, of a Union officer. There is a large amount of background detailing, showing camp tents by a river, with the American flag flying. Superb condition. 8 1/4" by 6 1/4"
Watercolor and gouache painting of a ship or boat on roiling, stormy seas, circa 1970's, signed at lower left by artist "Andro", whose worn business card remains affixed to the backing. The work measures 23 1/2" x 17" and 25 1/2" by 19" as framed. The apparent zip code on the business card, 91203, I believe, is Glendale, California. The work is loose in the framing, slipping around. Frame is worn and will likely need to be replaced.
Parisian Scene 1930s Watercolor,Tuileries Garden 19 x 26“ $1600
A scarce watercolor work of Southern art, the subject a street scene with traditional historic architecture including a church, two tiny figures and a tree, measuring inside the wood frame 9 3/4" by 7 3/4" (14 3/4" by 13" framed). The scene could be New Orleans or Charleston, South Carolina; I found the work in western Virginia. There is a signature at lower right but all attempts to read it have failed, though, it does appear that the date 1905 is at lower right. The work is on paper laid on...
A watercolor of a lighthouse on the Maine coast, 9" by 13" (15" by 19" in wood frame), signed at lower right by artist Donna Sabaka (1946-). On the reverse is written "The Nubble Light"/York/Cape Neddick, Me.". The artist signed again there and wrote "Kennebunkport, Me. 1986". The lighthouse is in the extreme southern portion of Maine, in the heavily visited coastal strip of that state---a large tourist draw in summer. Judging from information on the internet, Sabaka is apparently still a ve...
