Sometimes I find it difficult to determine if the colors have been applied to a single plate or if the print has been made with a separate plate for each color. This print feels as if it was printed with more than one plate because of the mixing of colors in some places and the clean separation in others...

This is extremely clean and fresh with bright colors not having suffered any fading from light exposure. The piece is accompanied by a bright green mat and simple black metal frame of the period. Allow for reflections in glass.

This is a museum poster or flyer issued by the Long Beach Museum of Art in 1972, advertising an exhibition that year of the paintings of the important and still highly underrated Swiss-California modernist HANS GUSTAV BURKHARDT (1904-1994). The unframed sheet measures 24 1/4" by 18", and bears the complementary signature of the artist in blue ink at lower right just below the black area of the central image. Burkhardt was born in Switzerland and arrived in America in 1924...

An unusual offering: a print of some type, appearing as lithograph but not, perhaps a Heliogravure or similar, with HAND COLORING IN PASTEL, the oval-shaped card on which this is created measuring 20" by 16", the entire wood apparently original early oval frame measuring 26 1/2" by 23 1/2". Research indicates this is after a Renoir original work "Portrait of a Girl Wearing a Charlotte", circa 1900, now in the collection of the Musee d'Orsay in Paris...

This is an antique photograph of earlier days on Charlotte Street, in the very historic town of Saint Augustine, Florida (which dates to 1565). For a long time I suspected this was Saint Augustine but recently I saw another example of this photograph, and in the margin it was titled "Charlotte Street, Saint Augustine". By the noted Northwest artist Elton Bennett (1910-1974), a circa early 1970's serigraph print, "Hurrying Feet", featuring sandpipers on the shore, a coastal forest in the background, a luminous light typical of the artist's works filtering over it all. This is likely by an artist considered Canadian, CAROLINE HELENA WILKINSON ARMINGTON (1875-1939) rather than by American CAROLINE ARMINGTON (1898-1986), though records for the two seem to be hopelessly entangled...
