Old print of what I believe are camellias, 10 1/2" by 8 1/2" inside the mat with hand-drawn outlines, 15 1/4" by 13" in what is now (but might not have been originally) a convincingly distressed gold frame, with hand coloring delicately applied. At upper right near the mat is "Pl." and a number so this was no doubt a plate from a book on botany. The item was probably framed in the early 1960's. There is some water staining of the very lowest portion of the mat...

Nineteenth century print of a scene including palace and figures strolling, titled in white gouache (by hand) "Florence" at lower center, the color throughout hand applied by a talented artist. This very nearly resembles a drawing rather than a print. Measurements 6 1/4" by 9 1/2" (14" by 18 3/4" in wood frame). It is signed "Picasso" in the plate at lower right in the image and dated below that 21-6-20. Max Thorek (1880-1960) was considered one of the outstanding surgeons of all time, but he was also noted as a very talented photographer, his efforts peaking in the 1930's and 1940's when he contributed mightily to the pictorialist movement. This original photograph itself measures 9 5/8" by 12 1/2" (other measurements 12 3/4" by 14 3/4" inside the outer, modern mat, and 17 3/4" by 21 3/4" as framed). It is titled in pencil on the original mat at lower left "De Profundis", and it is signed in ...

For the collector of fine photographs, here is a scarce or rare example of the work of major American photographer IMOGEN CUNNINGHAM (1883-1976). The image is of Anna Freud (1895-1982), the youngest child of famed psychologist Sigmund Freud, taken in 1959. The younger Freud became a specialist in child development and psychoanalysis, and today there is a foundation in London which carries on her work (google "anna freud centre"). The photographer is considered among the most important 20th ce...

An example of the 1976 poster for the Pasadena Art Center College of Design exhibition of the works of then-already famous American fashion and portrait photographer RICHARD AVEDON (1923-2004), measuring 26 1/4" by 19 1/2", unframed. The stark black and white imagery features photos of artist Willem de Kooning at his Long Island studio (1969) and dancer John Martin (1975). Avedon hand-signed in marker with his typical sweeping, dramatic signature, at lower center. The work was found unframed,...

Fine etching, of desirable subject matter, titled at lower left margin "Marble Game", signed at lower right margin and numbered there 15/40 by the noted American artist WILLIAM WOLFSON (1894-1966). This is a wonderful image of boys playing their very basic game in the middle of a gritty urban street, by an artist who is generally grouped with the Ashcan School of social realism of the early part of the 20th century. Wolfson was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and studied at the Carnegie Insti...

This is a work by highly regarded American artist THOMAS WILLOUGHBY NASON (1889-1971). Nason was a Boston-born artist who by the late 1920's had taught himself the fine art of creating prints in the wood engraving process. This process was popular for illustrating books in the 19th century but by the twentieth it had fallen from favor. He revived the medium and truly excelled at it. By the early 1930's he had been exhibited at Boston's prestigious landmark Goodspeeds book store. His reputat...

An outright rare monotype print work by a Northern California artist, works of whom rarely appear on the art market, JOHN ALOYSIUS STANTON (1857-1929). He signed it in pencil at lower left and dated it there 1904. The subject is a beached small wooden boat attended by several figures, as the sun sets. A monotype is something of a hybrid between original art and a print; the artist creates the image on a glass or metal plate, which is pressed once or at most only a few times, into that plate, ...

Aquatint on paper 20" by 14" (32" by 24 1/2" in tasteful framing, with quality materials), signed in pencil at lower right corner within the image, the subject a lady intensely examining a print from a bulging portfolio in a studio, other works visible in other portfolios and hanging on the wall. Title I believe is "Dans l'Atelier". The colors are somber and elegant. Robbe was a major French printmaker late in the 19th and early in the 20th century. His subject matter included Paris scenes, whi...

**ONE OF TWO OF THIS PRINT IN MY SHOP**Etching of Victorian children playing in an interior, 10 3/4" by 8 3/8" inside the mat. pencil signed "R. Ernst" at lower right. This is an unusual medium for the artist, best known for his highly finished and detailed oil paintings of orientalist subjects. These oils regularly bring hundreds of thousands of dollars at auction. This etching is all original, including the old soiled mat, and so forth. The etching itself is foxed especially in the margi...

Etching on paper, 8" by 7 3/4" inside the mat (16 1/4" by 13 1/2" as framed), the subject an antiques shop in an urban setting, pencil signed at lower right by the well listed and accomplished American artist EARL HORTER (1881-1940). I believe the title of this might well be "Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe". Horter was born in the Philadelphia area and is generally most closely associated with that area but he traveled widely, becoming widely known for his etched images of simply urban or historica...

Pencil signed, numbered limited edition print, 18" by 21 1/2" inside the mat, (25" by 28 3/4" as framed), titled "Pareja con Kiva" ("Couple with Kiva") by noted Arizona-based artist AMADO MAURILLO PENA. Pena is known for his Southwestern genre themes, dealing with the Native American and the land upon which he lives. See the web for much more information. This print is numbered at lower left 22/65, and is signed at lower right (a blindstamp appears there as well). Condition: Generally clean...

Etching on paper, 16 1/4" by 14 1/4", with narrow metal framing, pencil signed at lower right by artist, who, if I read correctly the Russian on the reverse, is one VLADIMIR KOSTROMIN. An old original label on reverse has a 1978 date, so I would imagine the print dates to the late 1970's. The ink is a greenish black. Moisture has compromised the margins and mold stained and rippled them; reframing would help exclude that. Some photos show reflections and overstate some slight discolorations ...
