TWO antique original (not reproduction) lithograph prints with delicate, subtle hand coloring,by noted English artist and nineteenth century Middle Eastern traveler DAVID ROBERTS (1796-1864). The prints both measures 8 3/4" by 12 1/2" (14 1/2" by 18 1/2" as framed). Roberts is best known for his lithographed images of sites in the classical Middle East, of which these are typical examples. This is a rare early engraving by Johannes Wierix after Pieter van der Borcht, printed with an image on both sides of the sheet. Each image measures 4 1/2 x 2 7/ 8 inches, 1583, a good impression on a very early laid type paper, published by 16th century book printer and publisher Christophe Plantin. One side of the sheet shows the 'Betrayal of Christ', the other 'Agony in the Garden'.

A fine color soft-ground etching and aquatint by the noted, prolific Czech master artist TAVIK FRANTISEK SIMON (1877-1942), featuring the famous and much-loved "bouquiniste" bookstalls along the Seine in Paris. The sheet measures 17 3/4" by 15 1/2" and 19 1/2" by 17 1/4" very nicely framed back in the 1950's or so in Chicago at Anderson Galleries (label on backing). The print is signed in pencil at lower right by the artist and numbered 48 in the lower left margin...

John Winkler, American, 1894-1979, "Standard Fisheries". This 1941 etching by John Winkler measures 13 1/2 x 8 1/4 inches and is pencil signed. Winkler was originally from Austria coming to America at the age 16. After various jobs he impulsively enrolled in the San Francisco Art Institute and soon discovered his talent as an etcher. He became good friends with John Taylor Arms as well as Arthur Heintzelman. His works are found in many major museums throughout the US and Europe.

The subject is a pawn shop ("Chiffonier") in Paris, the antique curiosities and goods displayed on the street as people mill about. In the plate appears the artist's distinctive monogram and the date of execution, 1913...

This is a matching PAIR of prints, one of shorebirds like snipe, the other of partridge-type fowl, each print measuring 13 1/2" by 19 1/2" inside the mat (18 1/2" by 23 1/2" as framed), both by ALEXANDER POPE, JR. (1849-1924), a noted American artist from Boston who is known for his Harnett style trompe l'oeil paintings of harvested wild birds, and sporting and wildlife art. Pope was from an upper class background, and he had a lot of time to paint...

This is a very rare unsigned proof, which does not appear in the Fern & O'Sullivan catalog. We believe this portrait to be of 17th century French artist Jacques Callot, whom Baskin greatly admired and included in his series of etchings, "Portraits of Ten Artists" in 1964.

Large limited-edition Japanese woodblock print by Joshua Rome (b. 1953) titled “Inawara” dated 12/20/1982. The bottom margin is titled, dated, numbered 28/100 and signed in pencil. The artist's red seal is beside the signature. Paper: 18 1/8" x 25" (image: 15 1/2” x 21 5/8"). Very good overall condition. The print is very lightly sunstruck. The bottom margin corners are a little wrinkled and the paper at the back upper edge is slightly distressed from tape removal.
