Measuring 15 x 26 cm this charming purse is completely hand-embroidered in silk thread on a polyester ground. The embroidery is a very finely worked ladder stitch combined with Romanian couching ("pokhtaduzi") so densely worked as to almost completely obscure the background fabric. The metal thread around the mirrors is fastened down at regular intervals with small holding stitches, producing a characteristic relief to the pattern...

This is a very attractive Vintage Japanese cloisonne vase designed with a contemporary style or deco look. We have never seen another like it. The vase is rather large and is signed Sato. It stands 7 1/2 tall and is 8 1/2 inches wide. It is in excellent condition with only a little pitting on the bottom rim. This is probably the finest cloisonne example we have seen produced from this company.
This is the second valuable porcelain item of Japanese Living National and Human Treasure Tsukamoto Kaiji that we offer from our collection.

This is an excellent and intricately carved very charming netsuke, made by our own Pennsylvania native, David Carlin. He describes it as a "Clown seated on a ball with his left hand holding his forehead and the right arm resting in the clown’s lap. Vintage Chinese soapstone miniature brush rest carved to represent a Taihu scholar’s rock with numerous perforations and crevices. Beautiful Laos soapstone with part of the boulder’s original caramel colored skin left on the side, wonderful carving, compressed dust on the surface, in great condition. Wonderful object for a scholar’s desk. Length 1.57 inches, height 0.78 inches.
