Mask carved in a very hard wood, the design is minimal. However the lines formed by the nose and the continuity with those located above the eyes evoke the shape of a spider. Note a slot on the right of the mask, however well secured by a metal clip. Far north west of Nepal, Humla region, H 34 cm, W 19 cm, age circa mid 20th.

This is the top part of a longuer pole fixed on bridge for protection of travellers. Although the carving is rought one can distinguish the minimal face either of a local deityor or also possible of the Sun. Age is circa mid 20th as it is already in my collection since 1992, good condition it is based on an old piece of wood which can be removed.

Unusual vintage Japanese tea ceremony small chawan - a tea bowl - with pink outside. The piece was made at Shigaraki kilns - one of the six ancient kilns of Japan - and displays typical coarse body with large sand particles, freely applied pink slip with clearly visible traces of potter’s fingers. Very rare complete jacket back panel from the remote Miao Jiupang group from Jiahe County, Guizhou province (see last enlargement), with purple embroidered pattern between the spaces in the tin decoration. This style of decoration is unique to this group and very difficult to make, as every tiny bit of tin has to be individually cut and crimped. Recently acquired from a private Hong Kong collector, these are the first examples I have send of these I have seen in the past 10 years...
