This small vessel, similar in a shape to a tokkuri, is a fine example of Oni Shino (carbon trap and natural ash glazing) that Tsukigata is so well-known for. Coining the term in the mid-50’s after countless failed experiments—which ultimately culminated in the discovery of this unique style of pottery—“Oni” translates roughly to demon or ogre...

A spectacular Iga Tsubo by Shimizu Hiroshi enclosed in the original signed wooden box. This very well designed and carved overlay glass snuff bottle is a 1970’~1980”s product. The red over bubbled milky white snuff bottle is 2 ¾” high, 2 1/8” wide and 1” thick. Both sides have the same design which depicts a pond scene with carp, butterfly, a lotus blossom and leaves. It has an orange carnelian cap. It is in great condition.

An unusually large Tetsu-mon Vase by Ningen Kokuho Shimizu Uichi over 13 inches (33 cm) tall enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Dispersed over the pin-holed white glaze are diametrically opposed red and black iron dashes of color. A vase with huge presence. Shimizu Uichi (1926-2004) was born in Kyoto the son of a ceramic dealer. Discarding the family business he apprenticed in plastic arts under Ishiguro Munemaro...

A wooden sculpture carved from a single block of wood of kannon or kwan yin. The work takes inspiration from the 6th century image at Horyuji temple in Ikaruga, Nara. Jimbo Yutaka (1923~) is known throughout Japan for his wooden sculptures and has done numerous exhibitions. The work comes with a tomobako with the inscription of the title of the work and the artist's signature and seals. The work also contains a signature by the artist. Age: Late Showa Period (1970-1980)...

Yuasa Koufuu is an accomplished Japanese calligrapher. She is the recipient of many honors and prizes in Japan. Her style is very graceful and reminiscent of the famed Edo Period master, Rosetsu. In this delightful piece, Yuasa Koufuu describes the beautiful scenery in a mountain river. Frame: 20 x 14 inches, 51 x 35.5 cm; Artwork: 13 x 9 inches, 33 x 23 cm.

This small carved jade (jadeite) snuff bottle is 2 ¼ inches tall, 1 ½ inches wide and a little more than half inch thick. One side depicts a dragon leaping out of the ocean trying to catch a fire globe. The pattern on the other side evokes the eight trigrams from the Book of Changes. The symbol of Ying and Yang is in the middle. It was carved around 1980. The workmanship is excellent and it is well hollowed. It has an agate cap which is quite possibly a replacement...

A bag for backpack made of Miyama Kansuge, "hiroro" by dialect which is a group of carex. It is made in Aizu region in Fukushima prefecture. It has purple and dark indigo cotton cloth interknitted in the cord. 20th century. In excellent condition. 40cm x 39cm.

Measuring 15 x 16.5 this embroidered purse from Afghanistan is in excellent condition and dates to the mid to late 20th century. Silk thread on cotton, in satin stich and brick stitch. White beads on corded tassels surround the edges. Condition is excellent. Estimated age late 20th century.

This well carved turquoise snuff bottle is 2 ½ inches tall, 1 ½ inches wide and a little more than 1 inch thick. One side depicts a standing smiling Buddha (Hotai in Japanese), the other side is plain. The snuff bottle was made in the 1970¡¯s. It has its original cap carved from the same turquoise as the body. It is in excellent condition.
