Japanese miniature black Raku Tea Bowl or Chawan in signed wooden box, Ca. 1980, the tea bowl measures 1 3/8" high, 2 1/8" diameter-top rim, impressed mark "Raku near the bottom and also top and inside the box, enclosed the paper information of the area of the kiln and how they made. Kiln crack on the white clay area where the impressed mark is located, but not on the black glaze inside the bowl.

A fine porcelain Japanese Koyto tea cup with a Japanese macaque or snow monkey. Dated 1956 and signed “Chikusen”, we are attributing it to Chikusen Miura III, 1901-1990. Measures 2.75 inches.

A lovely Shino tea bowl fashioned from coarse Mino clay and covered in a crackled feldspar glazing. The front and sides of the bowl are decorated with paintings of abstract foliage resembling Iris leaves and the base of the bowl is unglazed, displaying rough clay. The paintings, which are applied using a ferrous glaze, along with the han-zutsu shape (half cylinder) are very typical of this type of Shino-ware.

The creator of this lovely Hagi chawan, Hirose Tanga (b. 1939) is the master-potter of Tenpozan kiln in the city of Hagi. A refined and elegant work of Hagi-ware done by a master potter who is not only a direct descent of the Hagi forebears, but who also credited with having revive the tradition when it fell out of practice. This piece features a well-formed kodai (foot), an exceptionally nice Hagi glaze and several “ishi-haze” or marks from small stones that partially explode in the kiln. Judging by the box and the signs of aging on the work itself, this appears to be an early work by this potter.
