Man's soft grey silk under kimono with a painted image of Daruma, the Japanese God of Wishes. Two large coins using the shibori technique cross over onto the sleeves. Two pale peach washes are painted across the image area as well as swashes of small metallic gold flecks using the surihaku technique. This is a very soft, light-weight gray silk with a bright green raw silk lining. Dating to 1930s and in excellent condition, this garment measures approximately 51” across and 54” long.

Japanese early Showa period vintage child's silk kimono decorated with cranes flying among pines, both symbols of longevity. White silk lining. Measures about 37” long (excluding collar) and about 32 1/2” across (sleeve tip to sleeve tip). Circa 1940. Very good overall condition with only a few tiny spots on one shoulder. It appears to have never been worn and has been kept stored safely away in an air-tight trunk. From the Tucson, Arizona estate of a World War II veteran.

An unframed old watercolor painting of tall trees in a Japanese forest, 19 1/2" by 13", signed at lower right by listed artist TOKUSABURO KOBAYASHI (1884-1949). There is old Japanese yellowed newspaper from THE HOCHI SHIMBUN used as cushioning between the watercolor paper and the old wood backing panel. This is an old man's silk Jyuban, an undergarment worn under a kimono, a luxury from the past. Strange, but you will find quite a work of art in the undergarment, much more than finding them on the outer kimonos. The carps are tie-dyed. Other than a faint stain right above the right side carp, it is in excellent condition. This stain wil not show up unless you look at it under the sun. The measurements are 52" in width and 53" in length. No lining.

The 20th century Japanese scroll painting by the artist, Miyadai Tamae (1945-?). Miyadai Tamae is a Japanese painter who specializes in flower-and-bird paintings characterized by his effective use of ink. His paintings are popular for their subdued and tasteful colors. Ink and color on Silk, hanging scroll. This painting represents a cricket happily living in the nature. Signed “Tamae”, with one signature seal of the artist. Only one scroll head survived, otherwise excellent condition.

Vintage Japanese lacquer kogai style kanzashi - a hair pin - with lacquer decoration of flowers in a stream. Kogai type kanzashi consists of two sticks featuring a design on each end, which tend to be wider than the centre. Kogai resemble sheathed swords, with one end being removable in order for it to be placed in the hairstyle. Wonderful lacquer work, in very good vintage condition. Length assembled 4 1/4 inches. Part of East Coast Japanese hair items collection.

Incredible precision is the hallmark of this hand embroidered baby carrier from Ge Jia. The piece is bordered with batik and hand stitch detail which is so fine and precise that it looks like it was done on a machine but it was definately done by hand.
