This striking chawan is a fine example of “Oni Shino” (carbon trap and natural ash glazing) that Tsukigata is so well-known for. Coining the term in the mid-50’s after countless failed experiments—which ultimately culminated in the discovery of this unique style of pottery—“Oni” translates roughly to demon or ogre...
This porcelain dish was produced in Germany by Meissen before 1970. It has a diameter of 8 1/2 inches and it is 1 3/4 inches high. The porcelain is of the most excellent quality. The dish is formed with a ribbed interior fanning out into a scalloped edge. The decoration is taken from the Chinese. There are fighting roosters in the center, red dragons and Chinese ornaments. These are all hand painted and gilded. There is gold trim on the rim of the dish.

Japanese limited edition color etching and aquatint titled "Paris" by Kenji Ushiku (1922-?). Pencil-signed, titled, and numbered 63/150 in the bottom margin. Ushiku was particularly active in the 1960s and 1970s. There is a pencil notation of "4-80-45" at the bottom edge which could perhaps imply a date of April 1980. Paper size: 15 1/2" x 22." Very good overall condition. Printed on heavy rag paper with large margins. Never framed.

Japanese shunga group with watercolor and gold silver details , late meiji or Taisho prints with water color details and trimmed in silver and gold dust . 3 pieces in each group . Each page is approximately 9" by 6.25" and printed on a bamboo watermarked paper.
This drum handle is still provided with the wooden wedge which is used to fix it on the drum. The top shows 3 faces with open and threatening mouths, each face is separated by the Shaivite trisul. The center part is a very fine dorgi framed by spherical basketwork patterns the whole giving a shape that fits well in the hand. The triangular point shows a very beautiful sculptural work. ON each angle is a Makara mouth with wide open eyes and whose hands grip very realistically sculpted snakes...

Condition: two of the legs restuck (cf. last photo).

Rare zoomorphic medicinal vase or water pot, in ceramic with Song Dynasty type Celadon glaze, in the shape of a puffer fish. Vase from the Khmer or Song period, circa 10th/12th century. Depicted as a round bloated fish with ting front fins and large faired tail and a tiny mouth hole similar to a water dropper Angkor region, Cambodia heavy burial staining. , no restoration. In Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon (Dzongkha), the time spent in embroidering textiles is considerable and can involve as much as a year for certain ceremonial textiles such as this one with a black background, called a "napsham". Surprisingly, the intricacy of the woven design elements that closely resemble embroidery is created on looms, mostly backstrap looms. This early American Pattern Glass toothpick holder was made by McKee in 1904. It is 3 5/8" tall and not hallmarked. This pattern is called Peek-A-Boo or Cherub because it has 2 naked babies holding up a barrel (8 panel)

Brooch no100B (sometimes referred to as no120) is a small design with two tulips and berries. Another vintage GJ piece, this brooch is also a classic that was produced after 1945, according to the Georg Jensen mark. Georg Jensen in a circle of dots, sterling Denmark, and 100B are on the back of the pin. The pin is 1.5in (4cm) long.
Northwood made a lot of stretch glass. This color is very similar to Fenton's Stengl blue stretch. This 8" blue pedestalled compote is in excellent condition.
This Chinese Jacket from Yunnan Province, was part of the traditional Yao Ethnic Minory costume. Approx 50 years old this
textile is handwoven from indigenous plant fiber. The fibers are supposed to "last forever" so jacket will "never show used"...The thread used for hand embroidery (mostly using cross stitch technique) appears to be cotton. Jacket would be worn open, the silver buttons are intended for decoration only...
