Pair of cylinder cases, thinly potted with narrow necks and feet painted in mirror image with birds perched among flowering prunus plants. Accented red hand drawn borders at the rims and base of each vase with a poem on the opposite side.

On the base of each is a red overglaze seal of Liu Yucen.

Condition: On one of the vases, there is the remnants of a Jianding export seal. Next to this seal is a glaze crack, most likely from trying to remove the seal...

This is a very beautiful early "Ming Guo" or early Chinese Republic (1912-1950) fine famille rose Tianqiuping vase. The vase depicts spring season with many flowers blooming and four colorful butterflies scattered around and flying about the flowers. The flowers consist of peony, daisy and prunus with some bamboo and grasses in it. The prunus is shown growing out in all directions. There is also a short poetry about the flowers written on the vase...

A well modelled and painted glazed and "biscuit" figure of Budai made in China during the Republic period (1912-1949). On the base is the mark: Man Yi Sheng Zao - "Made by Man Yi Sheng". This item was brought to the UK by a Liverpool seaman during either the 1930s or 1940s. Condition - excellent - no damages and no restoration...

Kashigata (wooden sweet mold,) Take (bamboo) motif, Japan, early 20th C. L.7.375"(18.5cm) x W.4.375") x H.1.375"(3.5cm.) This mold features a bamboo stalk with two groupings of leaves, and the sweetmaker has written "sa-sa-ba" (bamboo leaves) on the side of the mold. Bamboo's resilient nature makes it a symbol of resilience in hard times and was a traditional symbol used for many celebratory occasions, such as births and weddings...

Shapely vintage Japanese wood crane, bending with fish in beak, naturalistic. Artist signature reads "Taro". Showa Period c. 1950 Size: 20.75" height x 10.5" length x 6.75" deep.

A pair of wood form for tabi socks. It is written the size "9" which is W:7cm, L:21.7cm, H:4.7cm. In good condition but it has the part of the arch of the left foot cut off. The first half of the 20th century.

Kashigata (wooden sweet mold) with double Kiku (chrysanthemum) motif, early 20th C., Japan. L.8.75"(22.5cm) x W.4.25"(10.5cm) x H.1.75"(4.5cm.) This mold has two chrysanthemum blossoms, a symbol of beauty and abundance in late fall and winter. On the side, the sweetmaker has written "an iri no natsume" (sweet red bean paste filled jujube) to indicate for which of type of sweet this mold was used...

A very finely painted fencai/famille rose enamelled teapot.The poem on the reverse side reads - "fang sheng chi jia; xiang qin xiu pi" which can be translated - "Fragrance (of tea)formed between teeth and cheeks; the scent (of the tea) deeply affects heart and spleen (refreshes one deeply)". It is signed "nie xing she zou" - "made by Nie Xing Sheng" (b.1909; d.1981) - active 1916-1981. The base mark reads Jiang Xi Mei Shu Ci Chang - "Jiangxi Art Porcelain Factory"...
