A small biscuit-fired turquoise, 'aubergine' and yellow glazed moulded stoneware figure depicting Wen Chang (文昌王), the Chinese god of culture and literature, seated on an acanthus leaf throne. This item was probably made for a home altar (possibly in Shanxi province) in the 16th or early 17th Century, during the second half of the Ming dynasty. Condition: the head has been broken at the neck and reglued and there are firing losses to the aubergine enamels at the back; there are no further damages and there has been no restoration. 14cm (5.5 inches) high.

**This item is On Hold**A white porcelain "Blanc-de-Chine" Buddhist Lion incense stick holder in similar style to the larger Guardian Lions which are frequently to be found at the entrances to Buddhist temples. These were probably originally made for domestic home altars and were among the first items to be exported to Europe from China as decorative objects. This item was made in the kilns of Dehua, Fujian Province, South China ,circa 1640-1660, and exported to Europe during the middle of the 17th Century. For a very similar example please see catalogue # 90 in "Blanc de Chine - Porcelain from Dehua a catalogue of the Hickley Collection, Singapore" by Rose Kerr & John Ayers. Condition: one old 3cm hairline to the base; no further damages, no losses and no restoration. 16.8cm (6.5inches) high.

A very finely carved ivory okimono of a fisherman wearing a grass apron and carrying a basket containing a fish. Additionally (within the basket) is a small bound bundle of reeds or sticks. There is a small peg protruding from his right forearm (please view enlargement #12) indicating that something (possibly the bundle) might have been attached to it. Carved on the base is an insect and the artist's signature, "Seimei". This item was made in Japan during the Meiji period (1868-1911). Condition: excellent - unusually no damages and no repairs. c 18.2cm (7.1 inches) high. Weight: 369 grams (13oz). An old and larger than average soft wood Dayak war shield painted with anthropomorphic figures and faces in red, black and white pigment. This item was made during either the 19th or very early 20th Century. Condition: very used; un-restored and un-repainted. There is much wear to the surface and edges and the decoration appears "faded". There is a very old replacement section of wood to the bottom left which appears to have been "cannibalised" from another old shield. Whilst most of the original human hair decoration is missing, on close examination a few remaining hairs can be found adhered to some of the smeared old resin glue. 157cm (61.75 inches) high; 29.5cm (11.5 inches) wide.

A Dayak sword - Mandau - with rattan bound deer antler handle in the form of a finely carved zoomorphic (possibly deer's) head. The iron blade is engraved with stylized scrolling vine decoration. Condition: very good, but the sword is without its scabbard and the bade has seen much use, having many nicks to the cutting edge; also much of the decorative brass inlay to the blade is missing. A massive bronze (copper tin alloy) vase cast in Han dynasty Hu shape and with Han style Taotie mask handles. The archaistic style decoration is an amalgam of Shang and Zhou dynasty motifs. These consist of upper and lower bands depicting stylized dragons and a central band of large Taotie ("monster"} masks. All are reserved against a flattened Leiwen (cloud) daiper ground. Below the upper two horizontal bands are pendent 'Cicida Blades'. An accompanying 1973 British Museum letter suggests an 18th/19th Century dating but more recent scholarship has confirmed that this item was made earlier, during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644).For this letter and many additional enlargements, please view 1tem #1045 in our Liverpool shop website at 69aliverpool.co.uk For a slightly smaller Ming vase of this shape, please see Lot 391, Sotheby's New York 18 March 2015; for a Ming dynasty archaistic bronze bell, with similar decoration, please view Lot 812, Sotheby.s New York, 21 March 2015 Condition - there are typical old repairs and losses, particularly to the base (please view enlargements). 49.5cm (19.5 inches) high. A rare, very well patinated, hardwood carving, with silver wire inlay, depicting the twin Daoist Immortals of Unity and Harmony - the Hehe Erxian. One is holding a lotus leaf and bud; the other holds a bat. This item was made, circa 1780-1820, during the reign of either the Qianlong or Jiaqing emperor. For a very similarly carved and decorated group of six of the Eight Daoist Immortals please view those in the collection of the Field Museum, Chicago (illustrated on page 115 in "The Arts of China after 1620" by William Watson & Chuimei Ho, published in 2007 by the Yale University Press, ISBN 0-300-073933). Condition: excellent - there are very minor chips to the front corners of the base; no further damages and no repairs or restoration. 46cm (18 inches) high; 21.5cm (8.5 inches) wide.

A thickly potted high footed porcelain dish decorated with 'famille rose' enamels depicting three Manchurian Cranes in flight above waves and framed with a simplified 'key fret' border. Inside the foot, on the base, is the Minyao six character iron red seal mark of the Tongzhi emperor. This item was made in China during either the Tongzhi (1862-1874) reign or a little later during the reign of the Guangxu emperor (1875-1908). Condition: good - there is wear to the enamels and there are small chips and frits to the rim; there are no cracks and there has been no restoration. 4.8cm (1.9 inches) high; 16.5cm (6.5 inches) across.

A rare and unusually large bronze (copper / tin alloy) sculpture of Shou Lao (also known as Shou Xing) the Chinese Daoist Star God of Longevity. This item was made in China in the 16th or early 17th Century during the late Ming dynasty. It is mounted on a later 19th or early 20th Century carved hardwood stand. This figure was originally made as the cover to a censer (incense burner) the smoke escaping through his open smiling mouth. Shoulao form censers are usually mounted on a standing deer. However the posture of this figure plus the fact that he is holding a staff suggest that this Shouxing was originally seated on a recumbant deer or was mounted on a rock form base. Provenence: This sculpture is part of a collection of bronzes which was assembled by a British architect who lived and worked in Shanghai during the early years of the 20th Century.. He left China in 1931 or 1932 and settled in North West England. We are selling this item on behalf of the Gentleman's Grand daughter. Condition: there are minor old bumps and surface wear; the tips of his right hand's little finger and index finger are missing as is the top of his 19th Century replacement wooden staff. This figure is in remarkably good condition with no significant damages or losses. 38cm (15 inches) high.

如此大件,较为少见。铜像做于16世纪或17世纪早期,即明晚期。硬木底座为后加,做于19世纪末或20世纪初。
此件原本应为一件香薰的盖,烟雾从寿星微张的口中飘出。
寿星像类的香薰,一般是寿星骑鹿的设计。但是此件铜像的形态加上手持木杖的事实,说明它原本应坐在一只卧鹿上,或石头上。
来源:此间为一位英国建筑师的旧藏,他在20世纪初曾在上海工作生活过。1931年或1932年他离开中国,在英国西北部定居下来。我们是为此建筑师的孙女代售此件藏品。
品相:表面有小磕和划痕。右手食指和小指尖有缺失,手中所持拐杖为19世纪后加,拐杖顶端有缺失。除此之外,品相很好,没有大的损伤或缺失。

A small heavy porcelain jar (without its original cover) finely decorated with stylized peony scrolls in green and iron red against a yellow enamel ground and with four cartouches depicting flowers, insects and precious objects painted with additional overglaze blue and aubergine enamels. Although painted in early 1th Century Kangxi style this item was made in China, for export, during the late 19th or early 20th Century, probably during the reign of the Guangxu emperor, (1875-1908). Condition: Excellent there are no damages and there has been no restoration. 12.4cm (4.8 inches) high; 13cm (5.1 inches) wide.

A small pair of finely potted U-shaped Chinese porcelain wine cups painted to the exterior in underglaze blue with stylized scrolls of flowering lotus above a band of Ruyi heads over a narrow foot. Above the lotus flower heads are eight Tibetan style Buddhist Lanca (Lantsa) characters. On each base of each, painted in under glaze blue within a double square, is the six character reign mark of the Ming dynasty Chenghua emperor (1465-1487) but these cups were made later, possibly in the early 20th Century during the Republic period (1911-1949). For a pair of Yongzheng Imperial wine cups with very similar under glaze blue decoration but bearing additional over glaze polychrome Doucai enamels please see Lot 203, Sotheby's Hong Kong, April 25, 2004. Condition: excellent - no damages and no restoration. 5cm (2 inches) high; 5.8cm (2.3 inches) diameter.

This watch was made in France during either the late 19th or early 20th Century, circa 1875-1910. A carved blown moulded glass snuff bottle painted on the inside with a mountain landscape and on the other side a garden scene with potted plants, lingzhi fungi and a weather sculpted rock. This item was made in China during the late 19th or early 20th Century. Condition: there is no stopper and there are flaws inside the clear glass neck which were possibly caused during the making of the aperture. 6.1cm (2.3 inches) high.

A very rare and unusual lotus form bowl on three lotus bud and seed pod feet very finely painted to the interior with vibrant Famille Rose enamels depicting bats and lotus amongst multiple sylized flower scrolls on a turquoise ground. This item was made in China during the reign of the Jiaqing Emperor (1796-1820) or late in the reign of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795). Condition: excellent - no damages and no repairs or restoration. 7.8cm (3 inches) high; 21cm (8.3 inches) across.

清乾隆嘉庆(18/19世纪) 松石绿地粉彩“莲叶”碗
碗身莲叶形,三个莲花苞和一个莲蓬组成碗的四足。内部粉彩饰缠枝莲花和蝙蝠纹,寓意福气连连。
应为清嘉庆年间所做,但亦可能为清乾隆末年作品。
高7.8厘米,宽21厘米。

A Chinese porcelain snuff bottle, attractively painted in underglaze blue and red , with a Ming dynasty style scene depicting many boys at play.The green stone stopper has an ivory spatula. The cyclically dated iron red inscription can be translated as "Year of Ding Wei (1907 or possibly 1847), for my snuff taking 'elder brother's' appreciation; presented by your snuff taking 'younger brother' Ya Quan. Condition: there is a long, stable, light hairline crack running down one side; no further damages and no restoration.
