An extremely rare matching pair of large pewter wine jugs, Germany, Marburg, dated 1740.

Fantastic execution and made for a very wealthy client in c. 1740, which is engraved on the lid beneath the name of the commisioneer - JOHANNES HAAS. The jugs are stamped with a Marburg 'Feinzinnmarke' - a pewter touch mark from the city in Germany. The master given is Johann H Werlin, a meister working out of Marburg.
