Pre-Columbian Mezcala Stone Figure. Circa. B.C. Standing Male figure Type 4. 5 1/2” x 1 3/4”. Provenance: Axel Traugott

A rarely carved secular version of the Buffalo Dance figure. Circa 1920. Having secular eyes, a buffalo dance headdress with horns, kilt, arm bands, and moccasins, and wearing a decorative, wooden, tail-like appendage. Excellent condition with only minor paint loss. In the four decades that I've been collecting and dealing kachinas, this is the first Buffalo Dance figure I've had. Dimensions: 8 1/2" tall.

1.25" long x 1.25" wide. Silver and semi-precious stones (turquoise, jet, abolony, carl). A knife wing god with silver wings and tail feathers, applied silver beading and scrolling wire details.

Pre Columbian Nicoya TRIPOD BOWL Papagayo Polychrome, Ca. 1200-1350 Nicoya, Northwest Costa Rica, Central America chip to rim as seen , Size H 4" Dia 5.75"

This is an extroadinarily rare Aztec ceramic pipe. There are only 3 others of this earliest type known to exist. It was found by Dr. Allen Heflin on 12/2/60 in Cuautitlan, Mexico. The end of the stem has been broken off and appears to have been glued back on. This is not the prettiest of the 4 pipes I have listed, but it is the oldest likened unto Paleo vs. Archaic. I have what I believe to be the largest and finest collection of Aztec pipes in private hands.

Two rare pre-Columbian masks in excellent condition with beautiful patina. The largest is 2 1/2" X 1 1/2". From the peninsula of Santa Elena, Ecuador. They date to 300-500AD. From the collection of Michael Robbins, purchased in 1989.

This Lost Lake is from Todd County, Kentucky and is 3" long by 2" at its widest point. The material is a typical Archaic opaque chert. It has great mineralization and patina. It has a Tom Davis COA rated G-8. I would rate it higher. It is a classic form. Shows much nicer in person.

Circa 1470-1532 AD pre-Columbian Inca ritual offering vessel Conopa in the shape of an Alpaca. Hand carved of a black fine grained stone, then polished with sand and water, with a hole in its back called a "qocha" (lagoon)-the container for offerings during the ceremony "haywarisqa" (ceremony of offerings) in which Alpaca fat and blood mixed with coca leaves were presented to the gods.

This seated figurine is dressed in Chieftain regalia and is wearing a fierce mask of a demon. It is carved from antler and has some glued repairs, but no restoration. It is from the Chimu, Peru culture, C950AD. See "The Gold of Peru", page 242 for similar carvings. It is 2" long by 1" wide and stands alone for display. It is from a Dutch private collection. A rare large pictorial beaded Iroquois animal whimsey, circa 1890. Depicting what looks like a mythological deer or elk figure. A great folk art piece. One of the largest and most spectacular whimseys known. With a great sculptural relief, and beaded in white, blue, green, copper, light tan, numerous beaded suspensions with tubular beads, sequins. Excellent Condition. 11 1/8" wide; 12 1/2" tall; 15 3/8" tall (w/suspensions).

Mexican Pre Columbian Tlatilco Terracotta bust. Rare fragment from an early culture c 1200bc-600bc. Tlatilco is noted in particular for its high quality pottery pieces, many featuring Olmec iconography. Tlatilco figures were known for their elaborate hair styles. This matching pair of Nayarit gold and silver spiral pendants were found together. The gold is 22K and hand cut, an amazing feat for today's jeweler and an unknown process with ancient tools. They are paper thin and spring-like, although lay flat. They are wearable. This is very desirable universal iconography. Purchased from the famous Lynn Langdon collection.

Colima Flat Large Female 9 1/2" by 5 1/2" CA. 300 B.C. to 500 A.D. Right leg reattached with break line showing, otherwise intact. This is a very nice early example, showing double pin hole piercing for each eye. She wears a unique head turban that flows continuously from the head wrap to drape over both shoulders. The piece is well shaped and detailed ,with an exceptional lifted and formed butt that is atypical for flats.

A pair of stunning rare Precolumbian stone tools or carving, Taino Culture, Hispaniola, pre 15th. century AD.

Interesting lot of two grey stone artifacts; one a rectangular stone tool with rounded corners and sides, verysymethric carving in a vulcanic hard stone, possibly a pestle, 10 cm. long and 8 cm. wide and 6,5 cm. thick, so quite massive. The other other an interesting granite looking stone shaped in human form or mummyform, 11,3 cm.

A medium sized Hopi Kachina doll carved by Wilson Tewaquaptewa circa 1930. Tewaquaptewa (1871-1960) was the last chief of Old Oraibi. He produced Kachina dolls which are a combination of many dolls and figments of his own imagination. He believed that you didn't carve actual Kachinas for the tourist market. His dolls are usually monochromatic in color (brown, ochre and white and black). His use of symbols, painted on the case mask, seems to be arbitrary. DIMENSIONS: 7" tall.
