This is a lovely ancient Egyptian Scarab, c. 1400 BC, from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 9/16” long (14 mm) and made of steatite, an easy-to-carve stone that hardens when heated. Scarabs empowered life and resurrection and were often placed under mummy wrappings to protect the body and help it resurrect. This Scarab comes in a jewelry display cup.

A nice lot of three faience amulets, incl. an intact Horus amulet, a nice Best amulet and a Bastet amulet, both fractional.

Size: Bastet is c. 24 mm. for comparison.



Provenance: Formerly in the private collection of Eberhard Hanfstaengl (1886-1973). He was a famous German Art director and head of the Berlin National Gallery as well as other higher positions. Educated as Art Historian. Comes with COA.

Terracotta female head of an Orans or Baubo figure. The broad nose is abraded and flat. The swung lips contrast with the white coat that used to be overpainted. The eyes are almost completely covered by the white pigment. The woman shows a broad forehead, curly hairdo and a stippled wreath over her head. The earlobes pierced to wear earrings.

Scarce and attractive steatite scarab of the New Kingdom period, inscribed with the royal name / cartouche of Seti I, 1294-1279 BC.

Colorful fragment from a sarcophagus. Depicting and facing left, Osiris and two of the four sons of Horus - the falcon headed god - Qebehsenuef and the jackal headed god, Duamutef. All wearing elaborate, cross-hatched, net-design garments. Hieroglyphic inscription and remains of feather design underneath. An Egyptian bronze bull depicted walking on an intergral rectangular base. Bull measures 50mm in length and stands 50mm high from the base to the top of the horns. The tip of one horn and one ear lost, otherwise condition is good, with a dark freen patina , late Dynastic Period, c. 664-332 B.C.
