Well modeled plate of shallow floor and upcurving rim. The bulged outside of the rim with a marked groove below. Standing on a ring foot which shows two pierced holes for suspension.
Faint traces of fingertips around the foot where held when dipped into the glaze medium. Covered with black glaze that turns into a warm red-brown color.

Etruscan Bucchero oenochoe (wine-pitcher), c. 550 BC, thin-walled (sottile), probably from South Etruria. Burnished smooth with black-to-tan color added. Part of one handle and part of the lip reattached 12.75” (32 cm) tall. A small piece on the bottom wasn’t filled so that one can see inside the piece. It was low-fired and is much more fragile than a high-fired piece. Do not hold it by its handles.

A beautiful carving of a large Lion attacking a rather small feeble Human with a spear. The Lion is here probably meant to represent the Pharao and the human, could be a Levantine warrior? Very well carved base and with carvings on the back as well.

A finely engraved Hyksos scarab, 17th.-16th. cent. BC.

The scarab is engraved with robe pattern in the center and with other hieroglyphs to each side, untranslated.

The seat of power of the Hyksos kings was the city of Avaris in the Nile Delta, from where they ruled over Lower Egypt and Middle Egypt up to Cusae.
