According to Chinese legend, an animal that has a dragon head and tortoise body is called “BaXia” (or Bixi) and is the oldest of nine dragon sons. Extremely rare and hard to find, is this truly exceptional Chinese cloisonne pitcher, enriched by geometrical designs and embodied with colorful flowers. The top and bottom borders are done in a royal blue cobalt contrasted by a turquoise backdrop entwined with golden wire. Circa 1900, Chinese export enamel trough planter with floral scenes in rock garden on a custom wood stand. The glaze on the exterior ground is a lovely pale turquoise, while the interior is a darker contrasting turquoise. The rim features fret key pattern in a vibrant translucent royal blue and the metal trim is silver which has darkened over time. In excellent condition, the planter measures 8" long, 5.5" wide, and 2.5" high. On stand measures just under 3.5".
This Qing Dynasty cloisonne box dates late 19th to pre-1910. Exhibiting a beautiful patina, the box is composed of brass with copper on the exterior. In excellent condition and a real visual pleasure, the box measures 3"x 4”.
